its very truth. altho i am kinda surprise how women thinks man should pay on the first date, because i am a split the bill kinda lady. * cuz my ex is very cheap on these things*.
In a perfect world, all expenses would be split down the middle, all things being equal.

I think it's nice to go half and half on some things. This is how I do it: 2nd date; Dinner and a movie he pays for dinner and you pay for the movie. But 1st date he pays for everything (if he asked you out) the whole point of the first date is for him try his best to win you over.
5Heliotrope: I think its in away opposite. Why pay dinner for a woman just because she is a woman? Split the first time. If you really like her after getting to know her, then it can be i nice gesture to pick up the bill. Then just take turns, or split the bill. People are different, and can find their own way anyways...
Don't forget, when you are on a date with a woman the best thing that you are giving her is your time, interest and attention. Any costs incurred (transport, food & drinks, entertainment) is really secondary. Sure you can show that you are thoughtful and romantic through your choices but you are definitely NOT there to try and buy a woman's interest - it doesn't work like that.
I don't think it's healthy for a relationship for any one party to pay more than 80% of the time.
Nothing compares to a walk in the park and a drive thru $1 menu. XD I figure if a guy asks me out, he's paying. If I ask him then he's still paying. =P
