"Breaking Dawn" Kind Of A Yawn
Stephanie Meyer's finale will leave fans of the vampire saga disappointed.

Breaking Dawn, the final chapter in Stephanie Meyer's addicting vampire love saga, should have been titled Breaking Rules. In the first three novels of the Twilight series, Meyers clearly outlined the laws of living that made this fantasy world so tangible. In this final book, however, she ignores everything she’s had us believe to create a novel that is filled with unnecessary drama and plot twists. Breaking Dawn speeds toward a climax that ultimately fails to deliver.
I realize that I probably bring a biased eye to the book since I think of the main characters of Edward, Bella, and Jacob as practically real people. Still, I can’t imagine that those who only know the series from the countless articles and trailers for the new movie would be won over by the shadows that Meyer's core characters have become in Breaking Dawn. Edward’s romantic vampire was portrayed as weak, depressed and a pushover (the complete opposite of the vamp we’ve come to know and love). Our heroine Bella, in possibly the books most frustrating execution, constantly complains about life, making it extremely unlikely that you’ll ever want to read the book over again. Her selfish acts, which continually hurt Jacob (Bella’s best friend and a werewolf) and Edward, make me wish she wasn’t the main character.
If you are a serious “Twilighter,” then you’ll naturally want to read this book. For those of you who are new to the books, be warned that Breaking Dawn is not the best of the series. With that said, when I closed the book on page 550, I was satisfied with Jacob’s life plan. Likewise, Edward and Bella fans will be satisfied with their romantic resolution. It’s unfortunate, but I get the feeling Meyer had only two goals to accomplish: Write the book as quickly as possible to finish the series and satisfy every reader with a squeaky-clean ending.
Breaking Dawn turns out to be as cold as a vampire’s skin. It lacks all the intensity and passion that made so many fans flock to this series the first time around. The only real emotion evident in Breaking Dawn is the deep love Meyer holds for all of her characters. She wants to ensure a happy ending for everyone of them, even if that means breaking all the rules to get them there.

I agree with Stretch_Slider. I compared the first three books with BD, and found Meyer's writing changed in so many drastic ways. There was just so much drama, what with the wedding and the pregnancy, it seemed like a basic love/drama novel. Only with vampires. And Meyer definately didn't get me on Bella having a baby. I really didn't think vamps can have kids. but, with all due respect, her books are still amazing. But BD had such a saddening ending for me :(

I am a BIG Twilight fan, and I love all the books. But, I'm sorry to say, she's right. In Twilight, it made me squeal with excitement for Bella and Edward, and kept me awake each night when reading the books. But Meyer didn't do a "perfect" job in finishing BD. It seemed like she rushed. I understand she was under a lot of pressure to get out the book for all her eager and adoring fans. But really, I would wait forever for BD if that's how long Stephanie needed to write the book. It's a wonderful and loving series, and I enjoyed it so much. But I hate to admit that BD was a let down for me. All I'm saying is that if she rushed, it was a bad mistake. But I still love the series with a burning passion, and Stephenie Meyer did a wonderful job with Twilight.
I love everyone's point of view. I think it's essential for me to say that upon first finishing the book, I enjoyed it. Then I started re-reading Twighlight and I felt a big difference between Meyer's writing. Edward and Bella made my heart jump during Twighlight (not so much during BD). Also, how did nobody know that male vampires ejaculate? Wouldn't Esme, Rosalie or Alice say, "Hey, stuff comes out!". There are a lot of great readers out there documenting the broken rules. If nothing else, it's interesting to read.
I loved Breaking Dawn. In fact I just finished rereading it after the negative reviews some had. You know what? I loved it even more. I thought it was very clever how everything connected. She is now one of my favorite writers. Some people don't like happy endings and I get that. I was very pleased it ended happily.
I DISAGREE WITH THE LINE Edward’s romantic vampire was portrayed as weak, depressed and a pushover that is a lode of bull but im some ways i agree withthis review withthe sence of the forbiddenness and the "tension" but allround breaking dawn wasntthat bad i persoanllly wouldnt re read it for the simple fact i had to FORCE my self to read the rest ofbellas part of it becuase i got to sucked up into jacobs half of the story.
i agree that bella was a bitmore selfish in this book. andi am a bit dissapointe with there not being a fight withthe vulturi its almost like stepheney was reading all of those fanfiction storys and wanted to keep all of them happy.
i ruend the book formy self by reading the fanfiction storys so thebook wasnt a surprise with esme island and all th e rest and im disapointed withthe lack of oriiginality in breaking dawn
but at least edward didnt die and jacob has imprinted and bella is now a happy vampire
thats the best part of it...
the 1st book will always be the best no matter what so stop comparing bd withthe 1st and third when its obvious that those 2 wer the best 2 be frank we should be greatfull that breaking dawn came out.
I LOVE BREAKING DAWN IT WAS AMAZING!! it was not a YAWN i wanted to keep reading and reading! it was very interesting!
You know I love you, but now I must kill you! Hahaha. Just kidding. I knew your perspective on B.D. already, as I vaguely recall some screaming in my kitchen over the newest book. But, I must add my side to all this. While yes, things out of form happened (meaning it all just flowed so smoothly).. You must remember that you were Team Jacob. So, you weren't waiting with your panties in a bunch for Bella to look up and see Edward waiting at the alter for her. And the whole pregnancy thing.. a total shock, but a joyous one. I think to love B.D. you had to not only want the things that unfolded, but you had to need them in your very soul. I read it twice, and loved it just as much the second time as the first.
I do see how some people could not see things in the same light as I do. Everything just happened. It all fell into place. There wasn't really a shocking conflict. But, it was the final book. The story needed to wrap up. And it did. Just the way I wanted!!!!!
and I gotta say.... selfish or not, if i was carrying Edward Cullens baby, I wouldn't have let them take it out of me either.
TEAM EDWARD!!!!!!!! LoL
<3 ya
Breaking Dawn was a wonderful conclusion to a fantastic series. I completely disagree with this review and whilst I do agree that this book was different to the previous ones Stephenie has said that her series was always going to end this way.
Don't you love being insulted by people who can't even spell "dying" correctly?
I have to admit I agree with you. Even though the books are fantasy part of creating a realistic fantasy world means creating rules and sticking with them. But instead of adhering to idea that vampires can't reproduce (a rule that the author pounded into the heads of readers while on tour) SMeyer gives us a "magical conception" that comes from so far out in left field you can't even see the bases anymore.
The only part of the book that really intrigued me was Jacob's portion because it was nice to take a step back from the freaky fetus. But in the end that's all the novel was about: Bella and the miracle of being married and pregnant at 19. BD promised us a climactic battle, but in the end the only one have a climax was Bella (much to Emmett's apparent relief). What a disappointing ending...
Well Gresa, everyone does have their own opinions and not enjoying Breaking Dawn is their choice and you shouldn't dislike people for just that reason.
And I, personally, did not enjoy it very much, but I still like the people who liked it. No need to be that harsh.
I think what you said (the article) was pretty much true to what I believe, but it was a biased opinion I guess.
But, I was yawning while reading it.
:D Nice job on the article !
u are so wrong. I loved the book. I think it was amazing. i wanted to keep reading after every chapter. when it was over i wanted to read it again! i dont know where u got that is was boring and broke all the rules. i think meyer portrayed all the characters perfectly. she did an amazing job on the last book of the saga.
edwards love and passion was weak?
of course it was weak when his wife was dieing and he couldnt do anything about it.
when you would do anything to make the other happy, you will surrender everything you stand for, you got the complete wrong end.
gosh this is why people that didnt like breaking dawn annoy me.
they had such ridiculous expectations.
