How Do I START Planning For My Wedding?

You said "YES!" You have the ring, you've told your friends, but now what? How do you start planning for your wedding? Do you research first? Buy books? Make your mom do it?

How did you start planning for your wedding? What did you do? What would you do differently?

Your co-workers would be good to help you, also the church you attend the members could help.
and I agree get with his family and ask for their help.
Good luck1

i would love to reply honestly to this, but i'm in the same predicament... I'm looking to plan a fairly inexpensive wedding, which can't be too hard, except.. I don't have any family.. It would all be his family.. So who do I go to for the support, and help with the planning??

Go to your friends for help and if you have a good relationship with his family how about his mom and sisters! Then get some magazines and a notebook and start writing down ideas. You need to book the location first. For low cost places look at state parks and local parks. Most college campuses have lovely outdoor places for weddings that you can rent for cheap. Once you book the place, get the dress! Go online to look. You can get lovely inexpensive dresses online. Just make sure you pay attention their return policies.

Make a list of the things you want and won't compromise on and don't do it! Don't compromise, In the end your mom won't remember, but you will.

I agree with this to some extent. but you should sit down with your fiance and figure what is important to him too.

Hire a wedding planner!

book the location first!! Everything else after that falls into place. Some places have a lot of hoops to jump through.

Don't get too caught up in the planning process. Remember: it's a time to have your friends and family around you to celebrate something special. It's not about the table linens or the cake or the flowers. Think of it as a nice dinner party.

ok, first you buy a wedding dress. then you try it on for your boyfriend and ask if he thinks it makes you look fat. if he says no, you say you're right, i need to gain weight... like a big porker of a diamond on my left hand! if he agrees, then you're engaged, you've already got a dress, and you know he doesn't think it's heinous. if he says yes, it does make you look fat, you're off the hook! no wedding to plan!

but then you are stuck with a really expensive wedding dress. Nice try though.

Choose which element of the day will be most important to you. Is it about inviting everyone from your friends from grade school to the postman? Is the band important? Flowers? Food? Then get online to a site like theknot.com or others that are cropping up.
