Stuart Fensterheim (LCSW)
I am committed to your growth. I will listen with respect and appreciate your courage in making the decision to participate in counseling which can lead you to happy, positive relationships. I hope to enrich your life by helping you find the path to positive emotional connections.
From an early age I knew I wanted to help others overcome loneliness, depression, loss and fear. In 1985, I received my Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland with a specialization in individual and family counseling. In 1990, I opened my private practice working with individuals, couples and families struggling with issues related to their relationships. I have experience as an Outpatient Therapist at various mental health clinics. Through the years I have worked in many acute care settings as a medical social worker, a trauma social worker at a trauma center, and a Director of Social Services
Each time a new client walks into my office, I have the responsibility of becoming a part of their life and working together to create a helpful, healing experience. I do not take this responsibility lightly.
When I was a staff clinician with Cigna Behavioral Health I primarily saw couples and families.I was able to see the positive impact counseling had on the families with which I worked. Families with an emotional connection are more satisfied with their lives. Years of experience has shown the support of a family is one of the most important things for healing problems. When you don’t feel alone everything is easier to deal with.
My current training in Emotional Focused therapy keeps me fresh. Our training as an EFT therapist involves others critiquing our work so that my clients know that my counseling skills are the best it can be. All of this helps me feel good about my work as a clinician.
I have advanced training in Emotional Focused Therapy, which is a researched validated model for helping individuals, couples and families. As my interests grew in the field of relationship counseling Emotionally focused therapy seems to be the model that feels best to me and I have found this helping more individual, couples, and families. Emotionally Focused Therapy helps distressed individuals, couples, and families reclaim their emotions so they can be more emotionally responsive and can build more secure and supportive ways of interacting with others. Many difficulties are caused by stresses and strains in relationships with others . I am licensed through the State of Arizona Board of Behavioral Health.
Dedication to helping families change destructive patterns of behavior is the core of my therapeutic work. I will help you become more open to feeling the importance of the emotional attachments in your life and make the changes necessary to help you change these destructive patterns.
