I am a licensed therapist, author, and college instructor. My daughter Tracy and I own the popular website movingpastdivorce.com. We offer a healing community about divorce related issues including divorce recovery, dating post-divorce, as well as stepfamily and blended family issues. We also offer support and advice for parents on how to help their children heal from the breakup of their family. Many of our articles focus on issues that adults raised in divorced families face - such as creating love, trust, and intimacy in relationships. I am a regular contributor on Huffington Post Divorce and enjoy public speaking. You can visit me on Twitter and Facebook.
The Reason I Became A Helping Professional
I became a helping professional because I was raised in a divorced family and enjoy helping others heal from loss and emotional pain. My parents divorced when I was seven years old and after my father remarried, I also lived with a stepmother and stepbrother for several years. I was not able to heal from my parents' breakup as a child because therapy was not an option and my parents were unaware of the impact that their split had upon me. When I was a girl, there was a lot of stigma about divorce and few resources were available to children and families.
I attended graduate school in the 1990's, and obtained my MSW and LICSW, so that I could become a more effective therapist and healer. I also began researching divorce and specialized in studying adult children of divorce. I have conducted three large studies on the long-term impact of parental divorce on children into adulthood. Founding my website movingpastdivorce has been my life-long passion and I enjoy blogging and writing about love, relationships, and divorce.
