About Maureen McKane

Journey, path, quest, peace. These are not the reasons people come to my office. They arrive with a logjam of issues. Their language is this: coming to pieces; about to break; can't take it any more. Comfort and calm is what they find when they walk in the door. Hope is what I bring to them in the first session. Peace then becomes their search.

For many years I have been learning from my clients the best, most effective methods to improve relationships, even the ones that look impossible to them. Whether it is a marriage that has drifted into lethargy or the parents of an alienated adult child or an engaged couple wanting to get it right before marriage or a teenager and his perplexed and terrified parents, I have seen it and helped turn it around.

The main focus of our sessions is a co-invention between you and me. I have the expertise about human nature and the patterns we get into. You know the ins and outs of your emotions and the people around you. I offer a perspective and then ask you if it fits. From there we figure it out together.

My methods, each learned and honed, are varied. This means I can design what will work best for you, your personality and your life. I use psychodynamic, cognitive, systems methods. I think of your life as it lives inside many relationships. You learned ways of thinking in your original family, some good, some no longer useful. You are shaped by the relationships in your adult life, at work and in private life. The key relationship to the whole puzzle is the one you have with yourself.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, usually using the proven, effective EMDR technique. I treat depression, grief and anxieties in general. I help people with life transitions and painfully stuck dilemmas. I also treat people with is a chronic illness, their own or their family member's. My clients are anywhere from age 12 to 80 Something. Change is possible at any age. Change is worth it no matter when you start. We all deserve to feel contentment.

To quote a priest "Tell me something I haven't already heard." After 29 years, I'm the therapist with the confidence behind all that experience.
