About Elvira Aletta
Do you find yourself at a crossroads not knowing which direction to take? Are you frightened that the old definitions of who you are just don't work anymore? Maybe you are miserable and confused about where you’ve wound up in your work or relationship?
Suddenly you feel like the rug has been pulled out from under you. The life you knew may be in pieces. You’ve discovered your husband is having an affair and it’s hit you like a baseball bat to the stomach. Your children are all grown and the role you loved so much is now redundant. You crave a good steady relationship but all you can find are tired hookups. Throughout it all you ask yourself, what is wrong with me?!
I’m Dr Aletta, psychologist, writer, speaker and founder of Explore What’s Next. It is my passion to reach out a hand when you've found yourself lost in an emotional black forrest. Together we can discover that you really do have the tools and resources within to regain solid ground. Out of the crisis can come growth, self-discovery, goodness and strength. Through my writing and my counseling practice, Explore What’s Next, I find deep satisfaction in helping you find your joy again, from the inside out.
I’ve been around long enough to know how awful it feels when stressful life events, disappointments and responsibilities overwhelm our dreams. My life experiences offered me the chance to understand firsthand what it’s like to hurt, physically and emotionally. As a kid, and throughout my life, I've had anxiety, panic attacks, and the occasional bout of depression. I thought I was weak and my self-esteem suffered for it. Later I found out both conditions run in my family. Hm, could somebody have told me sooner?
Then, in my twenties, I was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease that relapsed throughout my adulthood. Often the treatment could be just as nasty as the disease. Ten years later I was diagnosed with scleroderma, a chronic connective tissue disease.
Despite these and other adventures, I have an optimistic outlook that I attribute to a resilient temperament, an abiding spirituality, the right therapy at the right time (Thank God!) and a supportive, loving family.
Today I enjoy focusing on my private practice clients, writing, speaking and Explore What’s Next. A Clinical Psychologist licensed in New York State, married for over 25 years and mom to two awesome teens. When I need to get away from it all I run off to the barn where I keep my horse, a Paint mare, Annie, or throw the ball in the backyard with my SPCA rescue dog, Keeko.
I absolutely love the rewards and challenges of helping people regain the reins of their lives so that they can get back to enjoying the ride instead of dreading it. Click here and set up your free 30 minute consultation right away.
