3 New Hints (Including Photo Evidence) Suggest Demi Lovato Secretly Relapsed And Is Going Back To Rehab
We hope she's okay.
Demi Lovato has never been shy about owning her addictions and time spent in rehab, but new details have emerged that suggest the star might be hiding a relapse.
Lovato first attended rehab for three months in 2010 after punching a backup dancer who brought Lovato’s Adderall use to light. In the years since, she’s revealed that she’s struggled with everything from cocaine and alcohol addiction to an eating disorder and self-harm. And while she’s seemed to maintain her sobriety in the years since — in March 2018, Lovato tweeted that she was officially six years sober — fans are worried she may have fallen off the wagon.
Lovato has been incredibly open with her struggles with addictions, which began when she was 17 years old. Her 2017 documentary Simply Complicated revealed that even after attending treatment the first time, she was still using. “I was either craving drugs or on drugs,” she recounted. “I was not easy to work with.”
Despite her transparency, Lovato’s also said that she wouldn’t want to reveal a relapse to her fans. “When I started talking about my sobriety — I can never be seen at a club getting wasted. If I relapse, it shows my fans it’s OK to relapse,” she told Billboard in March 2018. “And I can’t do that."
But in April 2018, Lovato tweeted that the South American leg of her Tell Me You Love Me tour was canceled until further notice, leaving many fans wondering… why did Demi Lovato cancel her tour?
Lovato followed up that tweet with an explanation, claiming “unforeseen production issues” caused the cancellation — but some fans aren’t buying it, considering these clues in reality, she needed to cancel this portion of the tour to go back to rehab.
1. She hinted at a relapse close-call after the 2016 Met Gala
In her interview with Billboard, Lovato revealed that thanks to a “terrible experience” at the 2016 Met Gala, she went straight to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting after the event. “It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink,” she said, explaining how she called her manager to bring her to a meeting. “I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala.”
2. She’s triggered easily
Lovato has said that going to parties isn’t easy for her, and will likely lead to a relapse. In a 2016 interview with Refinery29, Lovato explained, “I had to learn the hard way that I can’t do parties anymore. Some people can go out and not be triggered, but that’s not the case for me.” She also said in 2013 that she’s unable to “drink responsibly. She reportedly told OK! Magazine, "Some people can smoke and drink recreationally. I'm not one of those people. If I do that, it will spiral out of control very quickly. I've lost the privilege of being able to drink responsibly."
3. There may be photo evidence of her drinking alcohol
In March 2018, a Hayley Kiyoko Instagram fan page posted a photo of Lovato with Kiyoko and two others at a party that Kiyoko allegedly shared on her Instagram story a few days prior. In the photo, Lovato appeared to be holding a beverage that looks strikingly similar to beer.
Interestingly, Lovato’s rapper friend Sirah posted the same image. However, in her photo, Lovato’s glass appears to be empty or a blurred out. An eagle-eyed fan commented on the photo, "I'm not tryna question Demi's sobriety bc I have a lot of respect for her. It just seems weird that her best friends post this pic with it shaded and then Hayley who isn't rlly that close to Demi posts the one where you can see what she's holding?? Like tf is going on." Lovato shot back, writing, "I don't have to defend anything but it was Red Bull."
Lovato’s claim may be true, but her comments about not attending parties are taken into account along with the mysterious tour cancellation leave room for speculation. She has also not posted anything on Twitter or Instagram since announcing the tour cancellation. Whatever the truth may be, we wish Lovato the best for her life of sobriety.
