What took so long?!?!
If you've ever walked down the greeting card aisle in your local store, you're probably aware that it's pretty generic. Even the funny cards are kind of meh these days, right? And aside from "Cards for Grandpa," and "Cards for Grandma" there aren't many creative options for the wide variety of family types we see more and more frequently around us.
I've even taken a trip to the store specifically to find a unique card and found myself walking out because nothing felt right.
Apparently, I'm not the only one who's felt this way.
Because now, Tineka and Alex Smith, a married interracial couple, have created HueTribe.
HueTribe is a line of greeting cards that arose from their own frustrations with not being able to find greeting cards for those outside the "norm."
Here's what they have to say on their official site:
"HueTribe is a small greeting card line which addresses the gaps of racial, cultural and sexual representation in the greeting card market. HueTribe was started after the founder became frustrated by not being able to find greeting cards which reflected her interracial relationship. Our founder, Tineka, and her husband, Alex, are going on 5 years together. They have always had difficulty finding cards which reflect their interracial relationship. When Alex gave Tineka a card with penguins on it — because it was the only greeting card with a 'black and white couple' he could find — Tineka knew she had to do something about it. She quickly discovered that she wasn't alone, and that finding interracial greeting cards, as well as LGBTQ cards, was a difficulty among her friends and family as well. And so the idea of Huetribe was born!"
What's even better is that, also according to their site, they are donating a portion of all profits to charities that support equality:
"We value the importance of giving back to the communities we support, which is why part of our profits go to charities which help support racial, cultural and LGBTQ equality. Now at a time where there is so much division in the world, it's important that we show the beauty of unity, in our own small way."
This couple rocks my freakin' socks off!
Here's a sample of some of the cards you can find on their site:
We should all be so open, accepting, and loving.
