You probably assumed the Fifty Shades of Grey hype would die down a bit now that the film has been cast, but alas, you were wrong. In addition to stationery, perfume, lingerie, sheets, and tie and mask sets, the truly obsessed can now get their Fifty Shades of Grey buzz on.
Author E.L. James helped develop and blend Fifty Shades of Grey Red Satin and White Silk wines with winemakers in California's North Coast region. But starting a vino line wasn't purely for profit. "Wine plays an important role in Fifty Shades of Grey, adding to the sensuality that pervades a number of scenes," James explains.
If you don't remember the central role wine played in the novel (who wouldn't?), you can look at a list on the Fifty Shades website for 17 moments during the book that feature wine and other spirits. Here is one lovely gem of an example: "Ana tied to the bed, blinded by her rolled-up shirt, and given wine via Christian's mouth."
The two flavors available are Red Satin, described as "a decadent red blend of Petite Sirah and Syrah with flavors of black cherry, cocoa powder, creamy caramel and vanilla, leather and clove spice," and White Silk, a blend of Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc with "floral aromatics of lychee and honey, tempered by flavors of crisp grapefruit, mineral and lush pear with a faint hint of butterscotch."
"I hope my readers curl up with a glass as they enjoy the romance between Anastasia and Christian," James continues. Because a non-branded Fifty Shades of Grey wine label just wouldn't cut it? Stock up at FiftyShadesWine.com. Bottles go for $18. Tortured billionaires not included.
