First dates can be awkward, especially if you met online and are seeing each other in the flesh for the first time. You might have nothing to talk about. You might be too different. Or, you might actually get along, but end up downing a few too many shots and start venting about your crazy ex, never to see your date again. With new online dating site DuoDater, you can bring your BFF (or even entire posse) along to make the experience of meeting a stranger more organic — and way more fun. How it works: Grab a friend, form a "duo," sign up for the site, and you'll be paired with another "duo." Then you can all hang out together sans awkwardness.
Why date with a wingwoman (or wingman)? According to this fun infographic by DuoDater's founders, it's safer, there are fewer awkward silences, and there's more personality. Plus, they note, "action figures don't count as friends" (sorry, Steve Carell in The 40-Year-Old Virgin). Site co-founder Andrew Flachner said in an interview that DuoDater encourages members to form more than one "duo:" up to six, in fact. This leads to more interesting and diverse dates, of course! 5 Worst First Dates Ever

The San Francisco-based website launched earlier this month as an invitation-only platform, which already has over 1,000 members. But as of today, DuoDater is open to everybody, Flachner told YourTango — anyone can sign up through Facebook or through the site itself. The site is still 100% free. So what are you waiting for — grab your friends and meet his friends!
