Hilary Swank Calls Her Divorce A Success
Now dating agent John Campisi, Hilary Swank says marriage to Chad Lowe succeeded.

Four years after divorcing her husband of nine years, Chad Lowe, two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank says that she considers their relationship a success. "A lot of people look at divorce as a failure," she told In Style. "I really look at my relationship with Chad as fourteen years of success. I will carry him in my heart forever. He's a part of me." Hilary has been dating her agent, John Campisi, since 2006, and says that she still believes in marriage. "There are friendships that we grow out of," she said, "but I believe in the long haul. I believe in having a monogamous relationship."

Hilary and Chad met in 1992, when they were 18 and 24, respectively, and married five years later. When she won her first Oscar in 2000 for Boys Don't Cry, Hilary famously pulled a Sean Penn and forgot to thank her husband in her acceptance speech. She won her second Academy Award five years later for Million Dollar Baby, and when the two actors announced their separation just a few months later, some speculated the breakup was due to Hilary's greater celebrity or the supposed Best Actress Oscar curse. Do You Make More Money Than Him?

Hilary said, however, in the August 2006 issue of Vanity Fair, that Chad's struggle with addiction had taken a toll on the marriage. "He's sober now," she told writer Leslie Bennetts. "I don't want to make it seem like that's the sole reason; there were other factors. But that just kind of blew it open. It made me look at things a lot deeper. That's when you realize it's not going to work." Addiction as an Attachment Disorder

Since the divorce, Chad has started a family with his girlfriend, producer Kim Painter. Hilary, on the other hand, told In Style that she's in no rush to tie the knot again. "John and I, you know, we were both in long marriages. It's not something that we need to rush back into," she said. And we applaud her entirely rational view of marriage. Someone doesn't have to die for the marriage to be a success, and some people just aren't meant to spend fifty years together. That Hilary Swank, such a good head on her shoulders.
