It's not set to air until Sunday, but Mo'Nique's comments to Barbara Walters about the peculiarities of her marriage to Sidney Hicks are so juicy that they've been chosen as the promotional temptation for the grand dame's Oscars special.
As recounted by our friends at PopEater:
"Could Sid have sex outside of his marriage with me?" the 'Precious' star asked. "Yes. That's not a deal-breaker. That's not something that would make us say, 'Pack your things and let's end the marriage.'"
Even if it happened more than once, Mo'Nique said she wouldn't hold it against him. "What if it's 20 times? So what?" she said. "We've been best friends for over 25 years, and we truly know who we are. Oftentimes, people get into marriages and they don't know who they're laying next to. I'm very comfortable and secure with my husband."
So comfortable, in fact, that her unshaven legs are not an issue. "He loves the hairy legs, and if Sid likes the hairy legs, there you go," she said. [Source: PopEater]
To some this is but an honest and rational stance towards modern marriage; to others, a sure sign of moral degradation. And to some, it's a bit sexist... especially in context with her other comments:
"Let me say this," Mo'Nique said. "I have not had sex outside my marriage with Sidney."
How interesting: Sidney and Mo'Nique's open relationship runs only one way. She may be free to have sex outside her marriage, which her husband presumably does, but she does not. Or, at least, chooses not. In Relationships, Does "Normal" Exist?
It seems enlightened, but let's be honest: is it really possible for one partner to be out sexually gallivanting while the other remains blissfully monogamous? And does it not in some way seem like Mo'Nique has traded the comfort of her hairy legs for her husband's fidelity?
