Introducing Gelato, a site for online daters who don't want to try very hard.
So you want to try online dating, but don't want to have to answer questions like "What's the song that's running through your head most often these days?" and "Who's the celebrity you resemble most"?
We know what you're thinking: "It sounds great, but how will other daters know that I look like Tori Spelling or that Hall and Oates makes me swoon?" It's easy, as long as you subscribe to a bunch of other social networking/media sites and are willing to be defined by your activity on said sites. Online Dating Sites Are Lying To Us (Maybe)
For example, you want other daters to know what you look like? Just click on the Flickr option, type in your Flickr user name, and it will load in all your pictures from the site. You want people to know what movies you've been watching? Do the same with your Netflix account, and instantly other daters will know you're on a Patrick Swayze kick. Basic likes and dislikes will be revealed when you link to your Facebook page, while Hulu and lastfm will show what you've been watching and listening to online. And of course, Twitter will make it clear just how annoying and narcissistic you are. When you're done setting up your profile, other users will be able to see you through what Gelato calls your "Lifestream." Facebook Manners And You
Obviously, the site has it's benefits and drawbacks. For example, the introduction video boasts that almost no writing is required, so if you're a person who likes words, Gelato might not be for you. If you're a person who doesn't subscribe to a lot of social networking/media sites, Gelato might not be for you. And if you're someone who doesn't want to be defined by what's on those sites, then Gelato is definitely not for you.
But if you hate filling out questionnaires and sharing stories about yourself, and think that what someone says on Twitter and rents on Netflix says more about them than anything they'd actually say about themselves, then there's probably no better dating site for you out there. Oh, and it's free.
Have you tried Gelato? Do you like it? Or do you prefer more traditional online dating sites like Match, eHarmony, and Nerve?
