A Great Combo: Online Dating And Donating
New site, GiveAndDate.com, combines charitable giving and online dating.

According to Philanthropy.com, there is a new site out there that combines two really nice things: meeting people in a presumptively romantic atmosphere and raising money..
The site is called GiveAndDate.com and has a very interesting concept. Essentially, it's a paid dating site that donates half of its revenue to charity. They've allied with a handful of causes and, naturally, let their subscribers choose which non-profit they give their monies to. Read: 4 Big Online Dating Don’ts
In addition to a subscriber fee, there is at least one other premium feature that will run you a buck per use… but half goes to charity. Seriously, it's for the kids (or cancer or abused pets or whatever good thing motors your boat). Read: 365 Days of Online Dating
The site was founded by a guy called Charley Miller (no relation to this blogger... or is there?), and it should be out of testing and ready for prime-time, NYC use in early October and hitting other big cities sometime relatively soon. Essentially, Miller's mission was to create an inviting environment for people nervous about "testing the online dating waters." Seems reasonable—you probably learn more about a person by where they give their money than by which beer they drink or which sports team they follow. What A Man's Favorite Beer Says About Him
If I know dating (I sort of do), this has a really nice yin-yang effect: women like generosity and men like niceness, charitable giving is both nice and generous. Outside of serving a cause you believe in (and a tax benefit, for now), is there really any other reason to give other than recognition and the chance to get some action? I kid. It would just be really nice, though, to be on a date, walking the streets of the NYC and be able to tell those 22-year old zealots pushing whatever good thing they're pushing that you've done your duty and to lay off the guilt trip already, brothah. Any other great ideas for a dating combo site? What about love of sitcoms? Could work, but I'm guessing that an Everybody Loves Raymond fan would not make it with a 30 Rock fan. For the sourpusses out there, what about a site catering to things that you hate? I feel like people who hate things really have a lot to talk about… hence the existence of all talk radio.
