Marriage proposals usually make us go “awwww,” even for people we may not know. When Bindi Irwin got engaged to long-time boyfriend Chandler Powell recently, the world joined together to congratulate the happy couple, noting how proud and excited her father, Steve Irwin, would have been.

But then there are proposals that are incredibly tacky. And recently, one proposal has taken the crown for Most Unnecessary Proposal Ever.

Who is Marissa Fuchs? Obviously, Goop’s director of brand partnerships didn’t get the memo when it comes to engagements. Her proposal and “surprise” engagement to Gabe Grossman, a Morgan Stanley financier, had us scratching our heads.

Apparently, Fuchs had tried to “sell” her engagement and photos to multiple companies, asking for sponsorships in return. Part of a 13-page pitch and “deck” read, “We’re pleased to offer your brand the opportunity to align with this momentous occasion.”

On Tuesday, Fuchs posted a video of Grossman discussing their engagement. Fuchs captioned it “WHAT IS HAPPENING?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Aside from Grossman’s horrible acting, anyone with a brain would be able to figure out that he was planning a proposal for the social media influencer. So, the next day, Fuchs posted a series of pictures in a video with the caption “Can’t sleep in anticipation of tomorrow @gabriel.grossman this is tooooo much to handle.”

Shortly after, The New York Post obtained the pitch, which was leaked online. Of course, that’s when everyone realized how fake this “proposal” was.

A few days later, Fuchs took to Instagram again and posted another photo. “STILL NO RING!!! Was completely shocked when I walked into Prime112 and Gabe’s family was NOT there and mine too!!!! Prime112 is Gabe’s family’s favvvorite restaurant, last time we were in Miami we ate at EVERY Prime restaurant. Instead the room was filled with my closest friends from UF #gogators!!!! @gabriel.grossman @eliciablaineevans beyond epic!!!” she wrote.

So what exactly did Grossman and Fuchs expect to get out of this? The “scavenger hunt” itself included a helicopter ride to Montauk, a luxury dinner in Miami, dresses, and jewelry, and on that Friday, in Paris, Grossman proposed to Fuchs with a flash mob on the Louvre steps.

If you’re gagging, you aren’t the only one. But although Fuchs says she wasn’t in on it (side-eye) and didn’t find out about the plans until two days before the proposal, we’re calling BS on that.

Still, she maintains that there was no intention to sponsor the proposal. “I know people are saying that everything was sponsored, but that couldn’t be less from the truth. Gabe has paid for every inch of this proposal... At the end, it’s all about showing love for the people you care about,” she said.

But that’s not all. Following the staged proposal, she’s apparently been “exiled.” This past week, she attended a party at Crow’s Nest in Montauk, and was denied entry. “She wasn’t invited and was turned away. She’s been exiled,” a source for Page Six revealed.

Goop isn’t happy with the planned engagement either, and in an email to BuzzFeed News, Noora Raj Brown, director of communications, wrote, “The proposal is only associated with her personal brand, and entirely separate from Goop. Marissa never received formal approval from Goop for this. We do know that she did not go through the proper channels for any such request.” Brown also said there is an ongoing internal review.

Grossman and Fuchs later got married at City Hall, probably because they spent a pretty penny on such an extravagant engagement.
