Public Relations Internship — Publicity & Podcast

YourTango seeks a PR Intern to join our team and help promote YourTango's brand, mission, and perspective to the wider public. The intern will work alongside our experienced audience development team to assist in planning, pitching, and executing campaigns, creating content, and building relationships with media outlets and influencers. 

This internship is fully remote and can follow a flexible schedule (minimum of 20 hours per week). Availability between the hours of 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM CT is preferred. Start date late September/early October 2023.

Typical Intern Tasks:

  • Assist in the development and execution of publicity campaigns
  • Conduct research on media outlets and influencers to identify new opportunities
  • Draft press releases, pitches, and other communications materials
  • Monitor media coverage and compile coverage reports
  • Develop and maintain media and influencer databases
  • Assist in the coordination of events or other promotional activities
  • Support the publicity team in administrative tasks as needed
  • Support the podcast team in administrative and research tasks as needed

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as marketing, communications, public relations, or journalism.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and trends.
  • A proactive and creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for the media, health and wellness industry, and keeping up with current events and social trends.

Learning Objectives, Supervision & Feedback:

  • Learn and understand the methods involved in researching media stories, angles, and timely, relevant coverage opportunities. 
  • Identify and creatively shape stories and thought leadership opportunities that connect the company’s objectives with the news cycle and trends in the market. 
  • Apply the principles of persuasive communication by writing publicity pitches that connect with media decision-makers and journalists seeking quality or novel ideas.
  • Develop a network of media contacts and influencers (podcasters / Youtubers / etc.) suitable for pitching stories to for coverage.
  • Interns are placed to work under a professional with expertise and educational background in the public relations field who will supervise them and provide regular feedback throughout the entirety of the internship, and - if required by the school - can complete mid-semester or end-of-semester evaluations of the intern (must be requested by the school at the beginning of the internship period).

Eligibility, Pay & Stipend:

  • Intern must be located within the continental U.S. throughout the duration of the internship. 
  • A $1500 stipend to be paid upon completion of the 4-month internship via invoice, paper check/EBT. Hourly pay is not available for this internship.
  • This internship adheres to the Fair Labor Standards Act and the standards set by the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division. 
  • Interns may receive college credit for their internship.
