About Mary Beth L. Sweeney

Mary Beth L. Sweeney is a senior partner at the law firm of Atwood & Cherny PC where she has practiced since 1988. Her practice includes all aspects of domestic relations and probate law in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.   A significant portion of her practice involves custody matters and children’s issues, including the impact of a child with special needs on a divorce case.  In connection with her work, Mary Beth has a sophisticated financial practice representing business owners, entrepreneurs, executives and other professionals in coming to a resolution using a number of different modalities. To that end, Mary Beth is a trained and certified mediator, and practices collaborative law in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She is regularly appointed as a conciliator by members of the bench. Mary Beth also believes in philanthropy and promoting the profession of the practice of law. Mary Beth was elected Trustee of the American Inns of Court, a national organization promoting civility and congeniality among lawyers and in the practice of law, currently serving a four year term. This organization works with prominent judges and lawyers from all over the country   Prior thereto, she served as past president of the Massachusetts Family and Probate American Inn of Court, and president of the North Shore Women in Business. “The face of family law has changed in the last two decades.  Although litigation is always an option, it is not the only option. There are other ways to resolve your family law or probate case without the necessity of protracted litigation. Effective lawyers are those that offer a menu of services and are able to resolve cases.   Litigation is to be used as a last resort, but when that last resort is warranted, experience matters.” Mary Beth can be contacted at: mbsweeney@atwoodcherny.com
