When You Know You've Found "The One"

When You Know You've Found "The One"

Jasbina Ahluwalia asks Sanjit Singh, author of Are You Indian? A Humorous Guide to Growing up Indian in America, "That is great. I love that. We have some male listeners who might be taking notes.

"What was it that lead you to this realization that you wanted to spend the rest of your life with your wife? What lead to that proposal on your end?"

Is She the One?

Sanjit Singh, "It's a funny thing. It was a slow realization in my case and for other people that I've talked to. It wasn't right away. It was a great friendship. We really liked each other. Slowly, this realization came over us."

Time Will Tell.

Sanjit Singh, "For me, it was fairly quickly after four or five months. It was about the same for Anita. It was the slow realization that I didn't want to be with anyone else. I didn't want us to live in two places anymore.

"I could see us spending the rest of our lives together. That's when I proposed."

Life Is Just Better.

Jasbina Ahluwalia, "That's interesting. I hear that a lot. The other thing that I hear is, 'My life is just better with her than without her.' It comes through time, interaction and getting to know each other.

"Thank you for sharing that with us. I imagine you have many funny dating stories on your journey to meeting your wife. Do you have a dating story that you can share?"

Crazy Dating Story.

Sanjit Singh, "Yes. I have a really funny one. I was living in Orange County and I met this really nice Indian girl. I picked her up for lunch. I said, where would you like to go for lunch? We were going to have a quick lunch in the middle of the workday.

"She said, 'I'm vegetarian.' I said okay. My mind was racing through all of the restaurants in the area. I said, how about this place? How about that place?”

"She said, 'How about In-N-Out Burger?' I said, but I thought you were a vegetarian? She said, 'Yes, but I like to order the grilled cheese sandwich there. They just put cheese between two buns.'

"I thought that that's the funniest thing I've ever heard. Someone who is a vegetarian, the first place they think of is In-N-Out Burger. That was the first funny thing that happened. We went there."

Shared Experiences.

Jasbina Ahluwalia, "I'm going to interject here. My husband actually said the same thing. He said, 'They have the best veggie burgers.'

"I thought that there is no veggie patty. I was expecting a veggie patty. I have to say, she is not the first person to say that. It cracks me up."

Sanjit Singh, "That's funny. Who knows? Maybe it's the number one vegetarian eating spot. I don't know."

Jasbina Ahluwalia, "I felt the same way that you did. I said, what? Please go ahead."

The Experiences To Find Her.

Sanjit Singh, "I also thought it was an odd place for a date but we had a nice time. We chatted. I was driving her back to her office and I got lost. I made a couple of wrong turns.

"I said, I kind of forgot where I was. She put her hand on my knee and said, 'That’s so cute. You must be so nervous right now.'

"I thought to myself, I'm not nervous. I'm just lost. She assumed that her beauty had put me in a state of being lost. That was an odd, funny date."

Jasbina Ahluwalia, "She had a lot of confidence. You have to give her that."

Sanjit Singh, "Yes, you have to give her points for confidence."
