Hey, You! How To FINALLY Squash Those Negative Thoughts Of Yours

Fortunately, there are many strategies to de-condition negative thoughts.

Many people struggle with negative thoughts without any outward physical manifestation associated with them. These negative thoughts are ones that many people use, such as: 

I'm having a bad day.

I'm so depressed.

I hate my job.

I hate [fill in the blank].

I can't do this.

This is too difficult.

I'm so fat.

Most people believe these negative thoughts are simply the way life is and that happiness is just an illusive dream. They're unaware their thoughts are their own creation—their own perception of what IS. Thoughtspositive, negative or neutraloriginate in your mind. You're the creator.

How does one break these negative thoughts when it is entirely created by your beliefs and thoughts? Well, as Ben Stein says, "The first step to getting the things you want out of life is this—decide what you want."

Fortunately, there are many strategies to de-condition negative thoughts. The most powerful and empowering strategy is replacing the old pattern with a new one. Simply mentally resisting the negative thoughts reinforces that which you wish to eliminate. Thus, making it even more prominent.

The more you focus on the thought you don't want the more you will notice you're "thinking" it. Instead of resisting the negative thought pattern, you need to redirect it. Think of yourself being a mental kung fu expert. 

Reverse the negative thought to a positive thought, for example:

  • I'm having a bad day becomes: That experience is over. I am OK and all is well. Or, I will change my circumstances.
  • I'm so depressed becomes: This too shall pass.
  • I hate my job becomes: There are good aspects of my job—I'll focus on those.
  • I hate [fill in the blank] becomes: This is only temporary.
  • I can't do this becomes: I am capable. I will get it done step by step.
  • This is too difficult becomes: Too difficult compared to what? I am capable.
  • I'm so fat becomes: I am powerful and empowered. I will change my food plan and exercise to create the body I desire.

You get the idea. With mental conditioning, whenever you hear yourself using the negative thought, say, "Cancel," or, "delete". Then, your mind will automatically flow into the positive thoughts you have used before. This process is similar to Pavlov's dogs learning to salivate when the bell rang.

If your negative thoughts are a sub-vocalizationi.e. you hear a voice in your head saying the wordssuch as, "You're an idiot," or, "I'm an idiot." Using the "cancel or delete" command shifts your thought, thus, leaving a temporary void to insert the positive thought. 

If your negative thoughts are visual (a mental image) or kinesthetic (a gut feeling), you can use a similar process to eliminate it. In most cases the thought will be a vile manifestation of all three—visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.

If you have more than one negative thought pattern, choose one and practice replacing the thought with a new thought for 30 to 45 days. During the "re-conditioning" process, track your progress. Be a non-judgmental observer of your thoughts and record the number of occurrences each day.

In the beginning, you might notice some vacillation. As the days pass, you will notice the number of times you hear yourself using the negative thought has decreased significantly.

At the end of the 30th day, decide whether your success is enough to begin focusing on eliminating another negative thought. Continue this process until you have removed all the original negative thoughts. If you notice other negative thoughts, you're well-practiced at eliminating them. 

Last but not least, refuse to allow failure to define your story ... no matter what. You're worth the effort to create the life you desire. You have heard that all successful people have stories of "failure" to tell about their journey to achieve success.
