About Desiree Maya

I am a business and life coach based out of the Bay Area in Northern California.  I’m a Cali girl through and through – I love warm weather and being next to the ocean.  Most of my family lives in Hawaii, so I’ve got no complaints about visiting them!  I’ve spent over a decade in the healthcare consulting world traveling across the US working with high-caliber professionals.  Coaching is the part of my career that I am truly passionate about.

I first focused on career coaching which has been tremendously gratifying – there is nothing like seeing people achieve the professional goals they desire.  I soon realized though that career is only one slice of life’s complex pie.  While a career may feel like it comprises 70% of life especially early on, life is much bigger than that – relationships, health/wellness, and spirituality play a major role and without looking at everything holistically, it is very easy to neglect an important aspect of one’s well-being.  Even after a career is over, the other parts of life keep going so it only makes sense to nurture the whole package of YOU!  Through countless coaching conversations, I’m continuously reminded that the human experience is fascinating and profound.

Coaching is a magical path to unlocking people’s hopes, fears, dreams, and challenges.  At the center of all conversations is this thing we call “relationships.”  Relationships can make or break your life experiences – especially the relationship you have with yourself, with your loved ones, and with your colleagues.  How do you nurture relationships, let go of them, or develop new ones?  I love exploring this with my clients.  What I have found is that healthy relationships take an investment of time, patience, and a whole lot of learning.

One of the areas that I have expertise and deep interest in is change and transition.  I am a change management expert and this is subject matter that can be pretty tough – whether it is change/transition in a career, to a new place, or in a relationship, emotions can be a rollercoaster ride from fear to hope and everything in between.  I’ve also personally gone through a lot of difficult life change – losing my father at a young age, completely changing career paths in college, going through a divorce at age 25, moving into scary new career roles – so I know it’s not easy.  Change can be a positive and accelerated experience with the right mindset and tools. Through exploration, commitment, and experimentation I work side-by-side with my clients as they make their journey to achieving the best version of themselves possible.  I’m thrilled to be a part of the YourTango community and look forward to developing some great new coaching relationships!
