Queen produced some of the most iconic songs to this day, it's no wonder everyone knows who they are. There was something different about the rock band when it made its debut in 1973 that made it stand out from all other musical talent in the years to come.
My first exposure to the British rock band was with Anne Hathaway’s “Somebody to Love” cover for the film Ella Enchanted. I belted along to the tune completely unaware of the mastery behind this song. It also wasn’t until I watched the 2018 biopic Bohemian Rhapsody did I truly appreciate the history behind the 6-minute song.
Queen has become one of the most influential rock bands in musical history. The group transcend generations with its wild artistic expression and musical freedom.
Everyone knows at least one Queen song, even if you don't realize it. They are so popular that Bohemian Rhapsody was recently the highest grossing musical biopic of all time.
After watching the recent film, I realized just how inspirational the band was as a whole. Freddie Mercury defied all the fashion rules up until his death in 1991. The whole band stayed true to their nature while pushing boundaries and making the most out of their combined musical talents. Queen made people feel uncomfortable and relished in it. They didn’t care; they just wanted to make music, and music they made.
