The Duggars have always had strict house rules.

We all know the Duggars as a wholesome, devout Baptist family whose matriarch was pregnant for a full 20 years, churning out 19 children total. Since then, the family has expanded, with many of the older siblings getting married and having kids of their own.
Growing up in this household was no doubt difficult, seeing as how many “normal” things were off limits. The Duggars were not allowed to watch television or read magazines, could only wear “modest” bathing suits, were forbidden from dancing (yes, really!), and could only date others in the presence of a chaperone. It’s a strict family, that’s for sure.
But another of the rules makes us scratch our heads because apparently, the Duggar sisters were not allowed to wear pants — only skirts. Are the Duggars allowed to wear jeans, even? Certainly, yoga pants are a big no-no, and shorts? Not gonna happen.
While the girls may have followed these rules under their parents’ roof, they’ve since strayed from the pack and have actually found their own fashion style wearing — you guessed it — jeans!
Jill Duggar, who now goes by her married name Jill Dillard, posted a photo on Instagram of her wearing skinny jeans. The photo was of her and her Cross Church friends.
Jill’s husband, Derick Dillard, also posted a photo of her back in June. The two looked like they were on a hike and Jill wore long jean shorts.
But Jill isn’t the only Duggar sister spreading her wings and flying into the world of modest fashion. Jinger also recently stepped out wearing shorts:
Technically she didn’t break any Duggar rules since she has her husband’s, Jeremy Vuolo, approval to wear “modest pants.” (Husbands need to give approval? Side-eye.) Plus, it’s not like they were short-shorts. They’re more like shorts you’d see an elderly woman wear to bingo.
It’s no wonder the Duggar women are finally breaking the rules — well, sort of — and doing things their own way. Because when you’ve grown up in such a strict and religious household, it’s only a matter of time before you want to rebel.
