Matt Damon Finally Admits He DID Know About Harvey Weinstein's Incident With Gwyneth Paltrow — Because Ben Affleck Told Him

Ben Affleck originally insinuated he knew nothing about the allegations.

In an interview on 'Good Morning America," Matt Damon admitted that he had heard about how Harvey Weinstein allegedly sexually harassed Gwyneth Paltrow from his friend, Ben Affleck.

According to Paltrow, Weinstein met her at a hotel just before she started shooting for the 1996 film adaptation of Jane Austen's "Extra." Once she arrived, he began massaging her and then asked her to join him in the bedroom.

She declined and left, later telling her then-boyfriend Brad Pitt about the incident. He later confronted Weinstein, who then when back to Paltrow and told her never to tell anyone what happened between them again.

"He screamed at me for a long time," said Paltrow. "It was brutal."

In his interview alongside George Clooney, Damon said he had heard about Paltrow's incident with Weinstein from Affleck, who dated the actress after Pitt.

"I knew the story about Gwyneth from Ben [Affleck] because he was with her after Brad [Pitt] and so I knew that story," said Damon. "But I was working with Gwyneth and with Harvey on [the 1999 film 'The Talented Mr.] Ripley.'"

"I never talked to Gwyneth about it but Ben told me that whatever or agreement they had come to there was an understanding ... and he treated her incredibly respectfully," he continued. "Always."

Both of the men said in the interview that they were aware Weinstein was a "bully" and a "womanizer," who often bragged about sleeping with actresses, but were unaware of his criminal behavior.

Damon is only the fourth actor to publicly state that he was aware of at least one of the incidents of sexual allegations other than the victims.

When news of Weinstein's sexual harassment and abuse allegations first broke, Affleck tweeted the following:

"I am saddened and angry that a man who I worked with used his position of power to intimidate, sexually harass and manipulate many women over decades." The tweet seemed to suggest that he was unaware of the allegations and hasn't said otherwise since.

Clooney only said that Weinstein had bragged about sleeping with actresses.

"Harvey would talk to me about women that he had had affairs with," said Clooney. "I didn't necessarily believe him quite honestly, because to believe him would be to believe the worst of some actresses who were friends of mine, and I didn't really think that they had affairs with Harvey - and clearly they didn't."

"But the idea that this predator, this assaulter was out there silencing women like that, it's beyond infuriating," Clooney said. "And the fact that the story is coming out now and the more it comes out, I want to know all of it."

Damon also said anyone who spent five minutes with Weinstein knew he was a bully.

"Like could you survive a meeting with Harvey. Could you survive -- could you stand up for yourself with Harvey," said Damon, also nothing that these incidents didn't happen out in the open.

"If there was ever an event where there was something I was at with Harvey in public and he was doing this thing and I missed it, and there's some woman who was somehow assaulted and was at the Golden Globes or something and I somehow missed it, then I'm sorry."
