There's not going to be a Ghostbusters 3. Instead, the franchise is going to be rebooted, this time featuring a cast of all female Ghostbusters. At least, that's the latest news on this long rumored follow up.
Ghostbusters was a huge movie, and spawned a successful cartoon series, toy line, and eventually a not-so-successful sequel. Children of the '80s and early '90s were obsessed with the franchise, and it was probably as popular as the Ninja Turtles were. There's always been talks of another coming out, but it's never actually happened. As a result, there is a lot of excitement over the idea of a new Ghostbusters movie finally being made.
The thing is, a lot of people are focusing on the "all female" aspect. Which is dumb, because it's not really that big of a deal. They haven't made any casting announcements yet, just that they intend to hire all actresses to play the Ghostbusters. Some people are upset about this idea, but they're wrong to be. There's plenty of actresses working today that would make great Ghostbusters. Here are 11 actresses that I would be excited to see in the new movie!
Amy Poehler
I'm not going to explain why Amy Poehler should be in this movie. It's too obvious and shouldn't need to be said. Seriously, why would you even try to argue this?

Mindy Kaling
Mindy Kaling seems like another obvious choice. She started off as the token Indian girl on The Office, a role that she took and made an actual character out of, and now has her own show. Also, her show has lasted several seasons on Fox, which is a huge accomplishment because that network loves to cancel shows before they even air.

Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj rescued what could be salvaged of The Other Woman and she's really good at pretending to be possessed (remember her alter-ego, Roman Zolanski?). Additionally, her verse in Kanye West's "Monster" still kills to this day, so she clearly knows her s*it when it comes to spooky, scary and silly things.

Rashida Jones
While she isn't necessarily a comedian, Rashida Jones has appeared in plenty of comedies and definitely has the chops. She's shown that she could play the straight (wo)man or the goofball, depending on what they'd need her to do.

Kristen Wiig
Hey! Here's another obvious choice! It's almost as if there are more than enough funny actresses out there that this seems like a pretty dumb debate. Go watch Bridesmaids and then try to say Kristen Wiig couldn't play a Ghostbuster.

Kat Dennings
While 2 Broke Girls may not be the most critically acclaimed show, Kat Dennings has proven her comedy chops in movies like The 40 Year Old Virgin among many others. This is another actress who's proven herself to be able to handle a wide variety of types of humor.

Chelsea Peretti
Chelsea Peretti is mainly known as a stand up comedian, but she's also been killing it on the super funny Brooklyn Nine Nine. Seriously, stop looking for people to justify this and just accept that women are funny.

Sarah Silverman
This is a no brainer. Even if they weren't doing an all female cast, Sarah Silverman should still be in the movie. Seriously, she's one of the funniest comedians out there, and her comedy style would fit right in with the Ghostbusters.

Aubrey Plaza
Once again, Aubrey Plaza: funny, on TV, in movies. Just accept that this is happening and is probably going to be good.

Jenny Slate
This SNL alumn has been making appearances all over comedies for the last few years. She's definitely funny, and maybe Ghostbusters could be her big break.

Kesha
Kesha once had a "vagina exorcism" and said she had sex with a ghost. She's also hilarious. The artist formerly known as Ke$ha could provide some real insight into the role of one of the Ghostbusters.

Jenna Fischer
The Office was a super funny show for a few years, and Jenna Fischer had the difficult job of trying to keep up with Steve Carrell. What really made the show funny wasn't so much Carell's antics, but Fischer's subtle responses. If she could handle him, she could absolutely bust some ghosts.

Sasheer Zamata
Sasheer Zamata is the best thing to happen to Saturday Night Live in forever. She could more than hold her own on the big screen.

Emma Stone
Emma Stone made me bawl in this summer's Amazing Spider-Man 2. She's a really good actress, and she's also starred in some great comedies. There's no reason not to put her in this movie.
