It's Official: Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth End Their Engagement

Love: Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth End Their Engagement

It looks like someone took a 'Wrecking Ball' to this relationship.

After all of the rumors, ringless fingers, haircuts and VMA dancing, reps for both Miley Cyrus, 20, and Liam Hemsworth, 23, confirm that their tumultuous engagement is officially off. Is anyone surprised by this news? Anyone? Anyone?

The two met on the set of 2010's The Last Song, and it hasn't exactly been smooth sailing since then. Over the years, the young duo became the epitome of the on-again-off-again couple. Their relationship took breaks before Liam's June 2012 proposal, and amidst the lack of wedding buzz, Miley recently told Harper's Bazaar, "I definitely don't have time to deal with a wedding right now. But I will at some point."

Earlier this year, rumors swirled that the engagement was close to over when Miley was seen out and about without her ring while Liam was on an extended vacation in his native Australia. Though the two had been living separate lives, they reunited in July and walked the red carpet together in August (with the ring!).

It seems that happiness was fleeting—this past weekend Miley unfollowed Liam on Twitter, which fueled even more rumors of their ending relationship. The official split also comes after Liam's alleged infidelity. Multiple reports have suggested that Liam was sexting January Jones and that the two were together at a pre-Oscar party, which may be why sources say the split is "Miley's decision, after coming to grips with Liam what she believed was less than faithful to her."

Right now this seems like a permanent development, but their on-again-off-again relationship seems to have nine love lives. Do you think there's another chapter to this couple's romance novel?
