Creative Proposals for Not-So-Creative People

If you're looking to get engaged or are ready to propose, here are some great proposal ideas!

Proposing to the one you love is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. When the time comes to pop the question, you’ll want everything to be perfect. After you've bought your girlfriend the perfect round cut engagement ring
, make sure you seal the deal right and create a unique, romantic engagement experience that you and your bride-to-be can remember for the rest of your lives. Below are some ideas to help you plan your big night.

Find some special pictures of you and your girl and use them to make a slideshow. If you want to build anticipation, tell her the slideshow is a gift for Valentine's Day, her birthday or some other occasion. For more of a surprise, you can even tell her you made it because you were bored. On the last slide, pop the question by adding, "Will you marry me?" to the bottom of your favorite image.

Customized Calendar

When you hand your future bride a calendar
, she probably won't know what to think. However, if you customize the calendar a bit beforehand, she’s sure to be surprised. Mark the day you hope to get married as "wedding day," and add some of your favorite pictures as a couple to the other pages of the calendar. If the year has already started, consider marking the date of the proposal with "Will you marry me? " "Got engaged" or something similar.

During a Parade

Convince your love to meet you at a parade, then tell her you're running late. Make sure to include another person in the plan, such as a friend, to make sure that she doesn't leave. Arrange to ride on a float and hold a sign that says, "Will you marry me?". If possible, decorate the float in a romantic way, dress up and play music.

Fortune Cookie

Take your future wife to a Chinese restaurant. Make arrangements with the owner ahead of time to bring your own fortune cookie, and then order a cookie that includes the fortune "Will you marry me?" Have the waiter give it to your girlfriend at the end of the meal, and have the ring ready when she opens it. Customized fortune cookies are available for purchase online. Make sure to order two cookies so that the difference in appearance doesn't give away the surprise.

New Year's Eve

At the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve, let your girl know that you want her to begin the year as your fiancée. Get down on one knee in front of all of your family and friends and bring out the ring!

Disappointing Christmas Present

For Christmas, buy your bride-to-be an impersonal gift
, such as a pair of slippers or a hollowed out book. Slip the ring inside the gift, and think of a way to get her to reach inside. For example, if you choose a book, tell her to turn to a specific page.

Box of Chocolates

If your plan is a Valentine's Day proposal, nothing works better than a box of chocolates! Open the box in advance and either replace a chocolate with the ring box or tuck the ring into one of the candies. If you put the ring in a candy, make sure it is easily seen. As soon as you know she has seen it, get down on one knee and pop the question! Regardless of how you decide to propose, consider having a friend with a camera nearby. This is a day you won't want to forget!
