"I just need you around for the next 50 years," Bill tells his TV personality wife.

This morning on the Today Show, Giuliana and Bill Rancic sat down with Ann Curry to discuss their next move in Giuliana's fight against breast cancer. After lumpectomies failed to completely rid her of the disease, she has decided to go forward with what some consider a drastic option: a double mastectomy. Giuliana Rancic: Should Women Get Mammograms Before IVF?

"For me, it was important to get the cancer out," Giuliana explains in the interview. "That's what I wanted to do, just get it out."

Her husband Bill explains that the decision was not made lightly. They would rather not spend their lives nervous about the potential return of the cancer, and with a double mastectomy, there would be less than a one percent chance her cancer could return.

"At the end, to be honest, all it came down to was just choosing to live, and not looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life," Giuliana says.

So far, the couple has been unsuccessful in their attempts to have a child, and the medications required after another lumpectomy and further radiation would push their attempts at having one off for another few years. While Giuliana's health was the main motivation, it's clear they want to get back to trying for a baby as soon as possible. Giuliana Rancic & 9 Celebs Who've Battled Breast Cancer

As trying as this is for Giuliana, she's getting through it with her husband's full support and encouragement. It was not an easy choice, she explains, but Bill's input was crucially important in her decision-making process.

"Bill said to me, 'I just need you around for the next 50 years, kid,'" she says. "He said, 'I don't care what you look like, I don't care about the physical portion of this. I just need you around for the next 50 years. So, let's just get you healthy.' And that certainly helped me come to a decision."

We're sure the road ahead will be difficult for them both, but we're wishing Giuliana the best and giving Bill a virtual high-five for being a source of strength for his wife while she battles breast cancer. Bravo — that is a successful marriage! 4 Facts About Breast Cancer That Will Surprise You
