NBA star Dwyane Wade's estranged wife sues Gabrielle Union for "emotional distress."
Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade, currently involved in a bitter three-year divorce battle with his childhood sweetheart wife, Siohvaughn Funches Wade, now faces another obstacle in his custody fight with Siohvaughn: She's suing his new girlfriend, actress Gabrielle Union. Siohvaughn's lawsuit accuses Gabrielle of inflicting "emotional distress" on Dwyane and Siohvaughn's two sons, Zaire and Zion, and says that Gabrielle's "outrageous conduct" has negatively impacted the boys.
Dwyane and Siohvaughn married in 2002, when he was 20 and a sophomore at Marquette University. They'd met as children and dated throughout high school, sharing a rough upbringing in Chicago as well as difficult-to-spell names. Zaire was born that year, and Zion followed in May 2007, four months before the couple separated and Dwyane filed for divorce. They've been fighting ever since, with both parties flinging accusations of infidelity and STDs, and with Dwyane even accusing Siohvaughn of refusing to allow Zaire to attend the NBA All-Star game in Dallas earlier this year, where his dad was named MVP. That is cold.
Now Siohvaughn is seeking $50,000 in damages from Gabrielle, who was linked with Dwyane back in the early stages of his divorce and used to date Dwyane's Olympic teammate Jason Kidd when they were in high school. (Dwyane was also briefly linked with former The View host Star Jones in 2008.) The suit alleges that Gabrielle "engaged in sexual foreplay" with Dwyane in front of the kids, that Zion nearly drowned in the pool at Dwyane's Miami house because the adults weren't paying attention to him, and that the relationship has caused Zaire so much anxiety that his hair is falling out. Gabrielle released a statement saying, "Each and every allegation made is entirely false. Gabrielle apologizes to the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, for tying them up with erroneous claims when there are real victims who should be receiving the legal attention they need." Dwyane also told TMZ that the suit is frivolous, noting that when it was first filed a month ago Gabrielle wasn't mentioned. "I am deeply saddened and disappointed that Siohvaughn has used our sons once again as pawns and is now lashing out at Gabrielle, who is an innocent party," he said. He also said that Siohvaughn's including Gabrielle in the lawsuit was retaliation for Dwyane's asking for sole custody of the kids. This is a horrible mess and we feel awful for those two poor boys. Dwyane Wade has reportedly tried to settle the divorce suit with Siohvaughn several times over the past few years, but she has refused. The Associated Press reports that a trial is scheduled for June. And hopefully a battalion of therapists is on call for everyone. Kelly Rutherford Child Battle Gets Ugly
