This week on a very special Family Ties reunion, Elyse stuns the Keaton clan by announcing that she's a lesbian!
Well, not quite. But in a real-life plot twist that no one saw coming, actress Meredith Baxter came out in an interview with People magazine. Meredith revealed that she has been in a four-year relationship with contractor Nancy Locke, and only discovered her true sexual identity seven years ago.
She explained that even after three failed marriages, the thought that she might be gay never occurred to her. She said that before coming out, "I was never comfortable with myself. That doesn't mean I was questioning."
Although Meredith is only now publicly acknowledging her sexual orientation, she opened up to her five children soon after coming to terms with it herself. All of her kids were nothing but supportive—perhaps because they all knew even before mom did? Son Peter said of the day Meredith broke the news, "I just couldn't stop smiling because she finally figured it out."
Aww, how sweet. We'd like to imagine that Meredith and the kids then stood around in the kitchen singing, "And there ain't no nothing we can't love each other through/What would we do baby, without us?/Sha la la laaaaa."
