About Andrea Mathews

Hi, I'm Andrea Mathews, an author, psychotherapist and corporate trainer, motivational and inspirational speaker. I have 30 years experience in the mental health field, the last 14 of those in a thriving private practice, providing Transpersonal Therapy and Cognitive Therapy to individuals and couples on a variety of issues.  Cognitive Therapy is an approach in which one works with thoughts, self-talk and beliefs to change patterns that are not working and develop new ways of interacting with self and others. Transpersonal Therapy is just what it sounds like:  It assists persons in developing beyond the personal, through spiritual and soulful connections with self, others and transcendence itself.  There is no religion in Transpersonal approaches, in fact one can be an atheist and participate in Transpersonal Therapy, for its main thrust is assisting the person in becoming conscious of and beginning to live out of the authentic Self.

And that is why I wrote my first book, Restoring My Soul: A Workbook for Finding and Living the Authentic Self. In that book you can work right on its pages, to transition from mask, costume and role to the authentic Self. And because of that book, I was asked to host a radio show called Authentic Living, on VoiceAmerica.com the 7th Wave Network.  This show, syndicated now for over three years with a large international audience, has allowed me a platform to talk to many people about what it is like to live an authentic life. And I've been able to interview some of the world's most profound, prolific, bestselling authors and spiritual leaders, who have helped me to explain the journey to the authentic Self to our listeners. The list of guests includes Marianne Williamson, Gary Zukav, Neale Donald Walsch, Joan Borysenko, Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Caroline Myss, Dr. Judith Orloff, Thomas Moore, Michael Brown, Dan Millman, Bruce Lipton and many more.

I'm also a Counseling Supervisor and an NBCC (National Board of Certified Counselors) Approved Provider of Continuing Education, and have written a Home Study for Counselors called The Soul of Therapy, that offers 21 CEUs to Counselors. It is also based on Restoring My Soul.

And because I practice Transpersonal Therapy, I've had many people come to me who have been struggling to manifest their dreams, by using the tenets of something called the law of attraction. These people are frustrated in their attempts to think positive thoughts and build vision boards, etc, all in an effort to manifest through the law of attraction. And so I wrote another book, called The Law Of Attraction: The Soul's Answer To Why It Isn't Working And How It Can, in which I propose the idea that the reason the law is not working is because the soul was never meant to work that way. This book teaches that we've misunderstood the law of attraction entirely and offers an completely new version of that law--one in which the soul is already fully invested. I love to write, and I'm working on another book, right now, which I hope to publish next year.

Because of the depth of my experience in mental health and the fact that I have served many years in upper management I have also been offering Corporate Training, Motivational and Inspirational presentations for 25 years on a variety of topics, and including Keynote Addresses, Workshops and Seminars for both small and large groups of people.  Some of the topics for Corporate Training include: Authentic Leadership, Effective Communication, Conflict Resolution, Stress Management, Personality Type and Team and Team Development. Some Motivational and Inspirational Topics include, Authentic Living, Authentic Relationshipis, Living the Dream, Metamorphosis, the Mystic Journey and more.

And I also write a blog at Psychology Today, called Traversing the Inner Terrain meant to assist readers in developing a pathway to the deeper more authentic Self.

As you can see then, my approach to just about everything is to assist people in finding and living the authentic Self. No one else can do this for you, for no one else can tell you who you are--though many have tried. But the journey offers peace and joy and a real life to all of those willing to become their own heroes.
