Jack, Kate, Sawyer and the rest of TV's "Lost" crew have taught us some valuable love lessons.
The sixth and final season of Lost is finally here (whee!) and fans are chomping at the bit to find out what happens to Jack, Kate, Sawyer, and all those mysterious (probably over-heated) polar bears. But beyond smoke monsters and the Dharma Initiative, Lost is really about the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 and the bonds between them (OK, and Sawyer's abs). Here are five love lessons we've learned from Lost; thankfully you don't have to be stranded on a tropical island to take advantage of these relationship tips.
1. Sorry, Jack: You can't deny real attraction.
Oh, the delicious tension … Read More
Say Rozlyn Papa WAS diddling the producer. What's the big deal?
Here's what we think about this supposed Bachelor "cheating" situation: talk about a double standard.
First things first: we aren't super-fans of The Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise. While our DVR certainly has a soft spot for low-brow television, a parade of chiseled men and women vying to be "chosen" by a (often) dull suitor (whom they most likely wouldn't look at twice in ordinary life) doesn't tickle our fancy for entertainment. Especially when it tries to masquerade as true romance. While we know "reality TV" is a misnomer, something about the show is too contrived and inauthentic to be even be a guilty pleasure. … Read More
Follow Pep (of Salt-N-Pepa fame) and her friends as she goes on her first date in four years.
For someone who recorded a song called "Let's Talk About Sex," Sandra "Pep" Denton, (of Salt-N-Pepa fame), isn't getting a lot of it. In fact, she hasn't gone on a date, let alone done the deed, in more than four years. After suffering a series of bad boyfriends, Pep removed herself from the market in hope that she would magically meet her soul mate. Surprise, surprise, he never made an appearance.
"I've had my share of relationships," Pep, 45, laments in the trailer for her new show, Let's Talk About Pep. "But believe it or not, I'm still … Read More
A new dating show brings viewers yet another version of speed dating.
Just last week, we wrote about the possible benefits of mobile dating, the most attractive of which is plain and simple convenience. But at the warp speed at which technology moves, this is suddenly not convenient enough for us anymore. I mean, why get your man off an iPhone app or the Internet when you can more easily get him off... a conveyor belt, in much the same way you retrieve your luggage at airport luggage carousels!
At least that's the premise behind Conveyor Belt of Love, a new dating show on ABC (actually a British remake) that … Read More
And not from just one of Jake's ladies, but two. This is the beginning of a wonderful season.
Jake the Pilot is ABC's latest Bachelor. You may remember Jake from last year's The Bachelorette. Jillian eliminated him about halfway through the show, and he showed up toward the end to tell her that one of the remaining guys wasn't being truthful about having a girlfriend at home.
So you could say that Jake was "memorable," but a few of Jake's ladies this season are already becoming memorable for their own antics.
Let's talk about Tenley. Oh, boy. She cried. Because she kissed Jake. She was upset that he didn't kiss her. Overly sensitive much? She received the first kiss and … Read More
Fantasy football maybe the premise, but this one's really another "moap opera" or "man soap opera."
If anyone utters the word "football," this Love Buzzer's eyes glaze over and an inner monlogue starts to block out the drone of the conversation to follow. This is not the stereotypical "female that hates all sports" situation. It just happens to be this one sport. Women Against Fantasy Sports Unite!
So wouldn't you know it? The League, the new FX television show centered around fanatsy football has really very little to do with... sports. What it is, really, is a relationship show in macho clothing. It's cloaked in sports and guy talk and machismo, but the majority … Read More
Christine's quirky dating patterns offers sound advice from 'The New Adventures of Old Christine.'
We'd have to guess that Julia Louis-Dreyfus, like most of her former castmates, probably feared Seinfeld syndrome. You know, where you can't shake your Seinfeld character (mainly because 90 percent of it was your own personality). Now hear this: Elaine has officially left the building.
Who's taken her place? On Louis-Dreyfus' newest comedy, it's Christine Campbell, the divorced single mom who's attempting to reclaim some sort of dating life despite a slew of midlife idiosyncracies and personality "defects." She puts it all out there; there's never any shame in her honesty in The New Adventures of Old Christine.
And we have … Read More
Romance 101 courtesy of Dunder-Mifflin.
Over the years, NBC's comedy The Office has contributed much to pop culture and office morale, popularizing "that's what she said" jokes, introducing the encasing of desk supplies in JELL-O and giving a whole new meaning to office antics. But while we were guffawing at Dwight's quirks and cringing at Michael's horrifyingly gauche comments, we were also watching one of TV's most long-awaited courtships unfold, courtesy of Pam and Jim. And let's not forget Michael and Dwight's own dysfunctional pairings since the series' 2005 debut.
Frankly, there are a number of love lessons to be gleaned from the employees at … Read More
Jon and Kate may be seen dating on TV, says TLC president.
We've been writing about Jon and Kate Gosselin longer than we'd like to think about. However, one thing that never occurred to us was how easily Jon and Kate could divert horribly into a bad Dr. Suess book. Possible lines include:
Jon and Kate can't find a mate.
Oh no! Jon and Kate might be late.
Will Jon and Kate take the bait?
Jon and Kate will let it up to fate.
You get the picture. However, we'd like to thank Us Weekly for helping use with those rhymes after dropping the bombshell: Jon and Kate will date on … Read More
An online dating veteran quits after falling in love with the TV show "Battlestar Galactica."
My last tortured breakup led to two things: television and online dating. The painful end to the long-term relationship led me first to the glory of take-out and then to television, culminating in renting DVDs of the Sci Fi show Battlestar Galactica. At the same time, I became an online dating veteran. For two years, I went on countless first dates and a handful leading to a second, none leading to romance. I shed no tears about these strike-outs, having already found plenty of substitutes for men. Little did I know then that watching Battlestar Galactica would, in … Read More
