Tiffani-Amber Thiessen's baby news reminds me of my all-time TV crushes.
As you may know, Tiffani-Amber Thiessen (now just Tiffani Thiessen, I reckon) married a guy named Brady Smith in 2005 and now, according to LimeLife, is pregnant. In Hollyweird you're not really taken until you have a kid or have been together for 12 years, so this pregnancy thing is pretty devastating to a lot of us. The news has me recalling my various TV crushes and what they taught me. Here they are in chronological order:
I'm 9 and she's Danica McKellar. My feelings about The Wonder Years' Winnie Cooper are known. When I was a boy, … Read More
Looking for a modern-day Mulder-Scully dynamic? Try 'Fringe.'
We've been fans of J.J. Abrams since Felicity. Since then, he's written and produced Alias, Lost, and now, Fringe. While the last three have been or currently are dramas, they've all had a hint of romance. And good ones, at that. This time around, J.J. doesn't disappoint.
Presenting: Our Argument in Favor of Fringe. If you haven't checked it out, do so, even if you're not a sci-fi fan. The characters and relationship between main character Agent Olivia Dunham and Peter Bishop are enough to sustain an apathetic science-fiction fan.
While Dunham is played by the lesser known Anna Torv, Peter Bishop … Read More
"Mad Men" has made us cheer for a cheating husband.
We cannot get over the Mad Men season 3 series finale. Thought #1: Best show on TV since Six Feet Under. Thought #2: WTF, Betty Draper? Thought #3: Why are we rooting for the cheat-bag Don Draper anyway?
Now, we know. We know that it's about time that Betty stand up for herself. The character's ability to make you love and loathe her simultaneously is a gift from the writers. (And unfortunately, not the actor, January Jones. Pretty girl, but we hear Jon Hamm hates working with her…He totally carries every scene. But anyway…) Ex Ashton Told January Jones To Quit … Read More
The picture-perfect family of today is full of non-traditional couples. And useful lessons!
We all remember growing up to Growing Pains and Family Ties, but so much has changed since the '80s and '90s. We were in need of a family sitcom that portrays life as we know it today. The new ABC series Modern Family does just that.
The mockumentary comedy (shot in a single-camera, Office style) explores the day-to-day stories of a same-sex couple, Mitchell and Cameron (Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet); a couple with three kids, Phil and Claire (Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen); and a multi-ethnic and generational-gap couple who are in both their second marriage, Jay and Gloria, played … Read More
Do vampires, werewolves or King Kong have you clutching the sheets at night?
According to Esquire, women aren't attracted to vampires in movies and on television because they're hot—we're attracted to them because we all secretly want to have sex with gay dudes. Sorry, Robert Pattinson, turns out you just remind us of a sparkly, prancing dandy. And vampire Eric, apparently we think you would make a great addition to our next sleepover. Lemondrop: Esquire's '75 Things You Don't Know About Women'—the Best & Worst
But if we're only into vampires because we want to bone dudes playing for the other team, what about other monsters? What does it mean … Read More
Jon Gosselin suspends divorce in what seems a reaction to getting kicked off 'Jon & Kate Plus 8.'
Yesterday a bombshell hit when sources spilled that Jon Gosselin had been kicked off Jon & Kate Plus 8, transforming the show into the brilliantly titled Kate Plus 8, highlighting Kate Gosselin as a single mom.
It appears that Jon is responding to the news with regret for his philandering and off-putting behavior by putting the brakes on the divorce. Yesterday Huffington Post reported that Jon Gosselin submitted a formal request for suspension of court proceedings, publicly condemning his own behavior since his split with Kate on June 22. "I regret my conduct since Kate and I separated … Read More
A review of "The Good Wife," a new TV drama on CBS.
The Good Wife premiered last night on CBS, and we were finally able to see what all those billboards, magazine and subway ads were all about. Turns out the show isn't half bad.
As advertised, the show is about Alicia Florrick, the wife (Julianna Margulies) of corrupt politician Peter Florrick (Mr. Big… I mean, Chris Noth). The opening scene shows the bad boy admitting his mistakes and apologizing at a press conference. As he finishes his speech his wife reaches for his hand. Afterwards, away from the cameras, she slaps him.
Fast forward six months, and Mr. Corruption is in jail, so … Read More
Jennifer Aniston pregnant, according to some sources.
The Jennifer Aniston romance rumor mill never ceases to amaze us.
OK Magazine has just issued a report that Jennifer Aniston is expecting a baby. Her relationship with Gerard Butler has kept us guessing all summer (and that's how she wants it, by the way), but now photos have emerged of what Hollywood has officially and affectionately termed a "baby bump" (which is gestating into a cliche that is wearing on our nerves).
The 40-year-old actress has voiced time and again that she wants to be a mom. The desire grew especially vocal after … Read More
Romance 101 courtesy of Dunder-Mifflin.
Over the years, NBC's comedy The Office has contributed much to pop culture and office morale, popularizing "that's what she said" jokes, introducing the encasing of desk supplies in JELL-O and giving a whole new meaning to office antics. But while we were guffawing at Dwight's quirks and cringing at Michael's horrifyingly gauche comments, we were also watching one of TV's most long-awaited courtships unfold, courtesy of Pam and Jim. And let's not forget Michael and Dwight's own dysfunctional pairings since the series' 2005 debut.
Frankly, there are a number of love lessons to be gleaned from the employees at … Read More
Vince and the gang teach us a lot about living and a little about love.
HBO's smash hit Entourage is an illustration of many things: a celeb-obsessed culture, boys-will-be-boys Peter Pan-ism, conspicuous consumption, a consequence-free hook-up atmosphere and me-too voyeurism… but it also provides a few lessons to be learned. The show, loosely based on Mark Wahlberg's rise to fame in Hollywood, isn't all fast cars, fellatio and fart jokes. The bromance between Vince, Eric, Johnny Drama, Turtle and Ari provides the show's spine but romance pokes its head in there a time or two as well.
Here's what the crew has taught us about relationships:
1. Be careful when you kiss and tell. As … Read More
