Dating site OkCupid wants to find the best profile.
Any veteran of online dating knows that there are some really, really bad profiles out there. Either people say something incredibly trite and use the terms "hard-working," "fun-loving" and "family-oriented" like they have any meaning left, or they write an incredibly serious autobiography starting with what position their parents were in on the evening of their conception to the names they have picked out for their future kids. Either way, unless the photo is outstanding, that person becomes your dog Skip. Read: 5 Mistakes Men Make When Dating Online

Married name or maiden name: your choice, not the government's says one naming expert.
Seventy percent of Americans think it's beneficial for women to take her husband's last name when they marry, while half say the government should require women to change their names when they marry, according to a new survey by researchers from Indiana University and the University of Utah. Responses were immediate. The Great Name Debate
"What women's lib?" asked a headline in the New York Daily News. "Taking away choice from something so wholly personal is quite another—and is one of those awful things that, like Michael Jackson's death, is initially shocking—and then, after a … Read More
Marriage age: most Americans married by 40, women marry younger than men.
Wondering if you'll ever get married? According to new federal data, you probably will. According to a study of almost 13,000 people, about 80 percent of Americans are married by age 40. A more general finding shows that 70 percent of people ages 25 – 44 have been married at least once.
Women tend to get married younger than men—ladies have a 50-50 chance of being married at 25 and almost three-quarters of us are likely to marry by the big three-oh. Only 61 percent of men will have done so by 30. By age 40, however, the … Read More
So you're pretty sure your husband isn't your soul mate. Rest assured. You're not alone.
More than half of women recently surveyed by AOL Living and Women's Day magazine say their husbands are not their soul mates, that they sometimes regret marrying their husbands, and that they have considered leaving their husbands at some point or another.
A part of us finds all of this a little surprising. Another part thinks, well, duh.
Let's break things down further, shall we? We'll start with the good stuff.
Of the 35,000 women surveyed, nearly 50 percent say that their husbands' personalities were the first thing that attracted them and more than 50 percent say that their husbands' personalities … Read More
Who buys Plan B? No orgasms for 30 years. How to cure Vaginosis. And the teens are hugging again?
Another week and another roundup of the best the interwebs have to offer:
Over at Lemondrop, they are quite amused by big media's concern about "sexting." I tend to agree, no teen is sending IWYTRBAOMFATWMEABS (I Want You To Rub Butter All Over My Face And Then Watch Me A Banana Slowly). You have to be at least 21 years weird for that sort of fetish.
According to the gang at The Frisky, another teen epidemic has the grownups spooked: hugging. The act is even being banned in some schools and perhaps Entourage is to blame? It … Read More

Women are good at flirty text messages but they might prefer a love letter in return.
Are you receiving boring, non-inspired text messages from your crush? Blame it on his gender.
According to a new study, single ladies are better texters. Researchers at the Indiana University analyzed flirty text messages sent between singletons at a screening of the Italian version of TRL and found that the women's messages were more creative.
What, you may ask, makes a good text message? Getting close to the character limit, using abbreviations (abbrevs, for those in the know) and emoticons. Interesting—we always thought emoticons were for making sarcasm obvious—Hey Pete, that's a cute girl ur talkin 2 ;).
But once … Read More
Dating a virgin, loving Valentine's Day and believing in monogamy.
Love Bytes: three must-click sex, dating and relationship links. Four percent of women would go without sex to have an "awesome" Valentine's Day. Wow. [NY Post] This woman dated a guy who was saving himself for marriage. [Lemondrop]
It was the question that I least expected to ask at the beginning of a relationship, right after, "So, when do I meet your folks?" But I couldn't stop myself. "Ummmm ... are you a virgin?" I braced myself for outraged denial, a snort or maybe even an "I'll show you a virgin!" followed by a passionate clinch. I wasn't … Read More
The Internet is such a hot number that it almost trumps sex. Wowza!
We've officially reached a new level of creepy virtual interconnectedness, folks. If a recent study by Intel is to be believed, our society is thisclose to trading good old-fashioned carnal pleasure for the sweet humming of our laptops. That's right—our daily google search sessions are officially (almost) as satisfying as sex.
According to the study, a whopping 46% of women said they'd rather give up sex for two weeks than their Internet connection. Men, believe it or not, weren't too far behind, scoring 30% in favor of the Internet. So it may be safe to venture that … Read More
