Don't RSVP "no" just because your bank account is running low.
Yes, times are tough but let us not forget that love carries on. Case in point, that growing stack of wedding invitations you have thumb tacked to the calendar. If it seems as though everyone you know is suddenly getting married this summer, that may very well be the case. Wedding season is officially in full swing and just because you're counting every penny, don't discount the fact that you're still required to send a gift for every invitation that comes your way.
While Brides.com suggests that the average amount of money to spend … Read More
HSBC figuring out what to do with wedding registry firm Wrapit.
A few weeks ago we talked about a UK wedding registry firm called Wrapit going into administration (like bankruptcy). They needed a white knight to gallop in and bail the barely solvent company out. Yeah, that didn't happen. These poor blokes are being forced to shut down operations.
The Guardian is reporting that the some-odd 2,000 couples that got rogered on this deal are planning a protest of Wrapit's bank, the venerable HSBC. This debacle is still in the finger-pointing phase as Wrapit's managing director, Peter Gelardi, is holding HSBC's feet to the fire for not credit … Read More
Wrapit, the company, has about run out of money.
Dammit. Like the British need further disincentive to marry. According to This Is Money, a company specializing in wedding gift registry called Wrapit needs more funds to remain solvent. Sucks, but it could be that the company name sounds like a discount condom warehouse. The real losers are the couples getting married. Evidently, some newlyweds have been waiting for gifts since April and the company is no longer taking new money as it sweats this thing out.
Per a spokesman for Wrapit, the company takes 2,500 to 3,500 orders per year but the current fiasco will … Read More
Mariah Carey wants to activate her wedding registry retroactively.
Channeling John McEnroe right now, "YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!" Maybe there was a typo somewhere or some sort of misunderstanding on our part, but it looks like Mariah Carey is pulling an all-time wedding faux pas. According to EntertainmentWise, she's asking her friends and family for wedding gifts. That's well and good, but you can't have a secret wedding and then request that everyone you might have invited to a regular wedding gives you gifts. This is outside of the rules of polite and decent society. According to the post, she's using her admin to guilty wealthy … Read More
What happens when nuptials collide with the Net?
Check out a funny, interesting article by San Francisco Chronicle pop culture critic Peter Hartlaub on the state of the blessed union of souls in the shadow of the world wide web. Totally worth reading. I’ve included my favorite paragraph:
“But there's nothing right about a world where pop R&B star [Usher], who has to be worth at least $25 million, is registered at Crate & Barrel, and any random person can buy them a $7.95 whisk or a $12.95 ceramic soap pump.”
The article makes a case for the decaying, impersonal state of matrimony...but for real? Usher and … Read More
