Are you doing enough to meet a man?
Sometimes, without even meaning to, other people can make you feel you're not doing enough to meet men. A relative asks about your dating status, or a friend gets engaged, and you're like, Uh-oh! I better giddyup! Luckily, that hasn't happened to me in a long while.
But take for instance this dog. My dad's neighbor's dog has a calling card. No joke. It says that Nani the dog is female, weighs 85 pounds, was born in 2004, and enjoys surfing, kayaking, eating, and sleeping. Nani is the "World's First Surfing Bernese Mountain Dog." Seriously!
For some reason, my first thought was … Read More

Dedicated to her husband Darius McCray, aka Family Matters' Eddie Winslow, Ms. … Read More
Buying advertising time during the Super Bowl for most-viewed personal ad ever.
A former New York advertising exec is raising money with the hope of buying ad time to promote her search for a husband during this season's Super Bowl.

She's been campaigning on her website SuperBowlSingleGirl.com hoping to raise approximately $3 million for the ad spot. Borkowsky has so far raised a mere thousand dollars and only a few open commercial slots remain, … Read More
Should you settle for Mr. Good Enough?
To settle or not to settle -- it's the single girl question of the year. Over at The Frisky, blogger Natalie Krinsky ponders the question: "When does compromise and understanding turn into settling?"
Earlier this year, a writer for The Atlantic Monthly made waves when she urged women to marry and procreate with 'Mr. Good-Enough' instead of holding out for something better. In a piece titled "Marry Him!," Lori Gottlieb argued in favor of settling from a practicality point-of-view: rather than delaying marriage and childbearing for a 'Mr. Perfect' (who may or may not arrive … Read More
To sleep around or to settle down? A torn woman confesses.
From our friends at True Hook Up Confessions:
From one to 50, it's up to each of us to decide how much sex we need to have before we settle down. (Don't worry, we don't count repeats!) The big question is, how do you know when you're done?
One True Hook Up Confessions reader was concerned about her growing volume of lovers:

I've slept with my share of guys... I think it's around 20, and I'm almost 30. Every age group from 19 to 42...different races...but why am I still … Read More
Why wait 7 years when you can find "the One" in 7 weeks?
Before The Secret, there was "The One." To be exact, there was a self-help bestseller titled Calling in "the One": 7 Weeks To Attract the Love of Your Life.
Seven weeks? I was dubious—but intrigued. I had never before read this type of book; never gone "new age" enough to actually purchase one. But I read my horoscope, I like sending out good vibes, and I'm all about the Golden Rule.
I saw no compelling reason why my one true love shouldn't be summoned like the book promised. Like so many single, hopeful romantics out … Read More
She didn't believe in love at first sight until she met him. Now she asks, "Will we last forever?"
In the summer of 1978, my mother accidentally flooded her boss's apartment, and got sued. It's a long story. The important part is that the young lawyer/aspiring rock star she hired to represent her later became her husband—my father. They settled the case out of court within a week. Afterward, she invited him to dinner, ostensibly as a thank you, but really because she had decided that he was The One the instant she stepped into his cluttered office and saw his wide smile and thick black curls.
According to my father, Read More
Google can tell us a lot but not everything about dates & potential mates.
BACK IN THE DAY, when "googol" was just a number too large to comprehend, every first date was a clean slate. The mystery unfolded slowly: Where are you from? Where'd you go to college? When should we register at Pottery Barn? These days, Google cuts in on the getting-to-know-you dance. Show me a person who has never indulged in a little online detective work and I'll show you an octogenarian resident of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. As long as there's Internet access, romance will be researched. But just because you can google—and it's nearly impossible to resist doing it—does that mean … Read More
