Could Women Soon Have Access To Free Birth Control?

Women may soon receive pills, IUDs and patches without the co-pay, under the Affordable Care Act.

It's hard to imagine the words "free" and "birth control" being in the same sentence, especially to the women who have spent years paying upwards of $30 for their montly pills. Yet, the Institute of Medicine (IOM), which deals exclusively with women's and reproductive issues, has released a new report that suggests birth control could soon be free and accessible for all American women.

4 Ways Health Care Reform Affects Relationships

4 ways the health care reform bill could affect your relationship.

Unless you've been living in a cave somewhere, (it's OK if you have been—we don't judge) you know that President Obama has really been shaking things up on Capitol Hill. Standing at the helm of the Democratic majority, he managed to push the first health care reform bill in 50 years (Medicare) through Congress. We have to admit, political parties aside, that this is an enormous achievement. But after the smoke has cleared, along with the shock and excitement, and the dismay of most Republicans, many are wondering how all this will affect their lives. And here at YourTango, of course we're worried about how this will impact our relationships. Government progress? Be still our hearts! But after the smoke has cleared, along with the shock and excitement, many are wondering how all this will affect their lives. And here at YourTango, of course we're worried about how this will impact our relationships. Sex Is Not Part Of Dutch HMOs, Evidently

Sometimes sexual harassment and great health care butt heads.

Evidently, many Dutch patients feel that some level of sexual gratification ought to be included in their hospital care, since sexual harassment seems to be gaining popularity with among some invalids. And who's to argue with that logic? Dutch nurses, that's who. The nurse's union, RU91, wants the government and the people of the Netherlands to know that patients should keep their hands and their propositions to themselves with their "I Draw The Line Here" campaign.

We Married For Health Insurance

Why did I marry my boyfriend after pondering it for a mere two hours? One reason: health insurance.

I'd never been one of those girls who'd dreamt about her perfect wedding. The virgin-white dress, the exorbitant costs, the fuss over a big, shiny rock—none of it ever appealed to me. I wanted to find a lifelong partner, and a family sounded nice, too, but honestly? I never cared much about that piece of paper. So why did I just marry my boyfriend after pondering it for a mere two hours? One (evidently all-too-common) reason: health insurance.

Gifting Birth Control?

Gifting Birth Control?

Planned Parenthood holiday gift certificates rile anti-abortion groups.

The latest national statistics show 14 percent of Americans are uninsured. Assuming half of them are women, that's approximately 21 million females who might not have affordable access to routine checkups or birth control. Healthcare is certainly an unorthodox gift choice, but what would a wife, mother or sister enjoy more: a new sweater or the ability to catch a disease in its early stages?

We Broke Up Over Politics

We Broke Up Over Politics

Politics and relationships: One couple agreed to disagree—until this election cycle.

I'm a social liberal, a product of my New England upbringing who thinks government can be run by professional Robin Hoods who redistribute wealth and carefully protect civil liberties. She is a fiscal conservative who thinks that the free market should be upheld at all costs. She's no war hawk, but she's no pacifist either. She thinks wars should be fought with hostile takeovers and marketing blitzes. I called her a robber baron, and she called me a socialist lite. They were like pet names. It's our luck that we met during the reign of Bush. We were equally disgusted by the ruling executive. Sure, we had different points of attack: I was horrified by the assault on civil liberties, while Karen was more concerned by the fiscal incompetence and costly doctrine of interventionism (she was, and still is, one of the few true isolationists I know). But we had a common enemy, and that allowed us to overlook the differences. But it was just that: an oversight.
