Couple Loses Over $3,000 In Wedding Cash

A wedding almost ends in a severe bummer, but a good Samaritan saves the day.

When it comes to weddings, the photographs are a Big Deal. But an even bigger part of the wedding is the gifts. Some companies have literally made their fortunes with gift registries. But not everyone wants to order off the menu, and many wedding guests give cash. After receiving a ton of green at their wedding, a Pennsylvania couple nearly lost over $3,000 as their wedding album, stuffed with the cash, fell off of their car as they drove away.

Divorce Registry: A Good Idea?

Divorce Registry: A Good Idea?

Should you get stuff from your friends when you get divorced?

Debenhams, the store, has created a divorce registry in the hopes of easing the transition from two to one. Gift registry, both for wedding and baby, is a major money-maker for department stores and it's a gravy train that can still be further milked. Unfortunately for retailers, people are cohabiting and marrying later and needing less in the way of knickknacks, paddywhacks and doodads. In fact, a reverse registry would probably be a good idea in many cases. It's only by the grace of God that most dudes only spend big dollars on things like televisions, kegerators and decorative Star Wars tapestries (used to cover holes punched into walls) and don't really mind throwing out stuff from Ikea.

UK Registry Closing Causes Protest

UK Registry Closing Causes Protest

HSBC figuring out what to do with wedding registry firm Wrapit.

A wedding gift registry firm in the UK has gone out of business. But about 2,000 couples were left in the lurch. The firm's honcho claims that it will cost the bank less money to provide the gifts than it would to refund the money. The couples now blame the bank instead of the firm. Way to spin it, guy.

I Want A Fairy-Tale Wedding!

I Want A Fairy-Tale Wedding!

Alternative weddings are all the rage, but some still opt for tradition.

I'm not normally what you'd call old-fashioned, as a 24-year-old feminist, agnostic video game developer. But when it comes to my wedding, I want to be the princess from the storybook. Despite hunting down the latest fashions in fusion recipes, high-end laptops, and nightclubs, I just don't have the need to make my wedding "modern."

Gift Registry Firm May Ruin UK Weddings

Gift Registry Firm May Ruin UK Weddings

Wrapit, the company, has about run out of money.

A wedding gift registry company in the UK is an eyelash away from becoming insolvent. Some people that got hitched in 3 months ago have yet to receive their gifts. This could be the makings of a fine buddy comedy.

Time is Running Out

Time is Running Out

Colleen realizes she only has 99 days to finish planning her wedding.

I went online yesterday to check our registry and see what gifts people have bought us so far (one of the many fun perks of registering) and on the Crate and Barrel web site, it thoughtfully gives us a countdown to the big day. In huge red letters it said "99 DAYS until your event." I couldn't believe it. Whenever anyone asks how wedding planning is going, I give a no-big-deal shrug and say, "We've got nearly everything done." And I used to believe that when I said it, until I saw that we only have 99 days left! We have to get his ring, pick out the tuxes, finalize the cupcakes with the baker, give the DJ our reception instructions and no-play list, get fitted for my dress, buy shoes and jewelry, and probably about 50 more things that I haven't even thought of.
