A formerly overweight newlywed discovers that feeling sexy on her honeymoon is not about being thin.
Tucks of skin trickled out from a pink, tropical bikini top. My half-naked body glared back at me from the unforgiving gleam of a fitting room mirror as I modeled a two-piece suit, gripped to the grooves of my body.
It was the day every woman dreads, the day we wish we hadn't eaten that cheesecake the night before, the day we regret skipping last week's workouts, the day we subject our naked bodies to bright lights and full-length mirrors. It was bathing suit shopping day. Staring perplexed at my reflection, I tugged at the corners of bikini number twelve. Eleven … Read More
Love handles, hungry butt, and ten other things not to say to your more-to-love man.
In all your concern about cellulite and bikini body, you may have lost sight of the fact that guys are also self-conscious about being overweight. Seriously—nearly 45 percent of men claim to be dissatisfied with their bodies for one reason or another. And considering there's an obesity epidemic going on, there's good reason for that.
So, while you may think that guys can take a little extra teasing about love handles, bingo wings and hungry butt, don't be so quick to call him out on those extra pounds. Specifically, avoiding the following oversize offensives will help you keep from leaving … Read More
Receding hairlines, love handles, waning erections... the list of male insecurities goes on and on.
You'll never see a dude turn to another dude and ask, "Do I look fat in these pants?" But that doesn't mean men are invulnerable to insecurities, no matter how much we'd like to think so. Women are upfront about their fears, doubts, and self-esteem. I used to think it was just compulsive gabbiness, a quirk of the fairer sex. But, in fact, it is an admirable coping mechanism that's even a little bit courageous. That said, I'll sack up and admit that I've spent a lot of my life feeling like a fatty, a chubasaurus, half-man and half-marshmallow. Read More
The New York Times seems to think men are getting fatter. Is this cool with women?
It never ceases to amaze us what The New York Times scrapes together and calls "news."
Last week they enlightened us with the astute observation that men have pot bellies. But wait—it gets better. The Times would like us to know that hipster New York men in particular have a certain "roundness" that can't be blamed on one too many PBRs. No, their stomach rolls stem from a rebellion against (catch this) Barack Obama's obnoxious gym habit and washboard abs. 11 Love Lessons From Entourage

Overweight reality T.V. contestants look for love, but is it working?
FOX's More To Love, which premieres tonight, July 28, follows the typical reality TV dating show formula, except with one main difference: there's an added layer of vulnerability to the contestants and—dare-to-say-it—a different shade of neurosis in these bachelorettes, who range in ages from 21 to 37 years and in weight from 180 to 270 pounds.
It's a combination that sits in your stomach in different, sometimes conflicting ways; none more so then when the show bounces back and forth portraying its characters' weight as something to be celebrated, and at others times, something to be overcome (or worse, gawked … Read More
How does losing 400 pounds affect your love life?
All teenage boys want to get laid: there are books that gaily depict their wanton needs, as well as an entire genre of movies devoted to the subject. It seems that TLC decided to jump on the bandwagon with The 650-Pound Virgin—the story of David Smith, a (once) 650-lb. outcast—that premiered on Sunday night. It was a shocking piece of television, but not for the reason you might think.
The program was … Read More

In the article "Sex and the Curvy Girl" the author talks about how overweight (whatever that word means) women manage stereotypes. User al5258, writes to tell us her experience:I have lived in Austin, College Station, and currently in Houston and I
am fat. I have never been asked on a date, most of my friends who are
also overweight have also experienced difficulties dating. My thin and
averaged sized (I'm going to call that 6-12) have not had too many
problems getting dates. Granted, its sometimes a "odds are good, but
the goods are odd" situation, but whatever they're still ahead of us
heavier … Read More
Study shows plus-size women lose their virginity the same time as smaller women.
Seventeen is the magic age for a young lady's loss of virginity and seven is the average "number" for a woman -- whether she is overweight or of a more slender size.
A study of 6,700 women out of Oregon and Hawaii also shows zaftig gals sleep with the same number of sexual partners per year, as well as during their lifetime, according to the Seattle Times. The study examined the hetereosexual activity of women ages 15 to 44 from a variety of racial and economic backgrounds and, cleverly, weeded out all the pregnant ladies.
Surprising, … Read More
Need to get something off your chest?
Turns out, a lot of people do. Overweight people, people who are married to overweight people. A friend introduced me to the site (myfatspouse.com), and, at first glance, I was sure it would be thread after thread of average-weight husbands and wives complaining about their, well, fat spouses.
The tag line is "It is disrespectful to willingly become unattractive to your life partner."
What it turned out to be is mildly addictive. In a fly-on-the-wall-of-the-therapist's-office kind of way. Both sides of the coin are represented, big and being married to big, and they talk … Read More
How overweight women manage sex, love—and stereotypes.
Last month during an intimate girls' night in, I publicly posed the question that many overweight women wonder but never say aloud: "Is someone only going to marry me to get US citizenship?"
I don't mean to knock cross-cultural love, but the fear I'd always had confronted me a few days before. A woman I knew—a good-looking gal with a great job and also about a hundred excess pounds—just got engaged to a weird-looking guy who I don't think speaks English.
And, apparently, my fears are pretty commonplace among bigger gals. Says Wendy Wimmer, a blogger for the popular … Read More
