How does losing 400 pounds affect your love life?
All teenage boys want to get laid: there are books that gaily depict their wanton needs, as well as an entire genre of movies devoted to the subject. It seems that TLC decided to jump on the bandwagon with The 650-Pound Virgin—the story of David Smith, a (once) 650-lb. outcast—that premiered on Sunday night. It was a shocking piece of television, but not for the reason you might think.

The American Idol judge proves why staying in shape at 40 is better than a boob job at 20.
Who knew that American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi had such a killer set of...pipes? She clearly blew away 21-year-old "bikini girl" Katrina Darrell in last night's season finale when she emerged with a microphone during Darrell's rendition of "Vision of Love."
DioGuardi, a noted record producer, surprised over 30 million viewers when she belted out the lyrics and then ripped open the buttons on her dress to reveal a killer set of curves.
Darrell's facial expression, upon realizing that the 38-year-old both out sang and out stripped her, was priceless. Good thing because the Idol castoff is probably down to … Read More
Breast reduction surgery gives a writer a new outlook on love, but the results are not immediate.
Weeks before I turned 19, I checked into Massachusetts General Hospital terrified that nothing could fix the way I saw myself. Two days after undergoing surgery, I stood topless in my parents' bathroom watching as my mother slowly pulled squares of medical tape spotted with puss and dried blood from my chest. I waited in Percocet-induced suspense for my flat-chested doppelganger to miraculously appear in the full-length mirror. When they were finally uncovered I hardly recognized the small puffy breasts that fit perfectly inside the palms of my hands. There were lines of stitches in rows around my nipples and … Read More
How to tell him size does matter, when to get "financially naked," and why his muscles bulge.
Love Bytes: three must-click sex, dating and relationship links.
Of course size matters. But should you lie about it? [Em and Lo]
He is already sensitive about it, and he is just hoping you haven't been with any well-endowed men. So if you overcompensate with an outright fabrication such as, "It's huge. It's the biggest one I've ever seen," he will know you are lying.

NBC rejects suggestive PETA commercial as obscene.
Vegetarians behind People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) say their meat-free diets make their sex lives superior, but NBC will hear nothing of it. The network rejected PETA's racy "Veggie Love" Super Bowl commercial, saying it depicts a level of sexuality that exceeds their standards. (Was it the suggestion of asparagus penetration or the suggestive pumpkin licking?) Actually, NBC submitted a blush-worthy list of additional shots to be cut before the commercial is resubmitted. It included "touching her breast with her hand while eating broccoli," "pumpkin from behind between legs," "rubbing … Read More

Willing to make a culinary sacrifice? How to date with food preferences and allergies in tow.
Candlelight, red wine, freshly made pasta. Flirting at a small table in a corner infrequently visited by the waiter. Such are the makings of a great date.
But not if you can't eat what they're serving. What if you must start with a 10-minute interrogation: Can the scaloppini be prepared without a dusting of flour? Can I forgo the bed of pasta and just have the red pepper salmon? Does the chef use anything to thicken the risotto? Embarrassing. Your waiter takes a few trips to the kitchen to speak with the chef, and your date progresses in fits … Read More
Culinary preferences (and restrictions) can make or break your love life.
According to a recent New York Times article, finding a perfect match in the bedroom can often be overshadowed by a perfect match in the kitchen. In a time when passions run high for meat, against it, pro-wheat, or anti-animal-anything, dating someone who does not share one’s view can strain the relationship. When an omnivore and a herbivore unite, battle lines could be drawn.
Says the piece:
“Food has a strong subconscious link to love, said Kathryn Zerbe, a psychiatrist who specializes in eating disorders at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland. That is why refusing … Read More

The New York Post reported today that thin couples have hotter sex lives, according to a recent Readers Digest poll. Forty-five percent of men and 46 percent of women believed that losing weight would improve their sex lives. I can’t say I’m completely surprised, although one quote in particular really stood out:
“Twenty-six percent of women who are overweight would much rather eat live bugs than let their partner watch them walk out of a well-lit room naked.”
Eek.

From Medical News Today
Women who followed a combination of five or more lifestyle factors, including changing specific aspects of their diets, experienced more than 80 percent less relative risk of infertility due to ovulatory disorders compared to women who engaged in none of the factors, according to a paper published in the November 1, 2007, issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology. The study was led by researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) and did not examine risk associated with other kinds of infertility, such as low sperm count in men.
