I waited a few years after my wife died before I started dating a great woman, who's divorcing a jerky guy. For 2 months, we've had dinner together a couples times a week. we stay in touch each day by texting, "Miss You," or "Have fun today." Yesterday, I kept my cell off while I spent the day and had dinner with clients. Later I noticed she had sent me dozens of texts asking what was wrong and saying she doesn't like to be ignored. I immediately called her to say that nothing was wrong and I wasn't ignoring her. She said if I really cared about her, I would have answered her texts instead of torturing her with my silence. She said she wasn't sure she wanted to see me again because of this. I'm confused. I enjoyed her until she freaked out over one day away from texting. Can I send you her texts so you can figure out what happened?

I'll start with a word of warning. Young Adult is being marketed as a snarkier version of Juno with alcohol on its breath. Don't fall for it. This is a dark comedy about a seriously troubled, emotionally stunted 37-year-old woman who peaked in high school. So yes, it's exactly what I needed to see when I was teased in high school by the popular kids. (You're about a decade late, Diablo Cody.)
When you're starting over after a divorce, try to keep a positive outlook as you begin dating again.
So many divorcees are angry about their situations, disappointed they haven't met someone, or resentful of their ex-husband's lives. Let it go. Don't start out on a brand new date simmering with pent-up rage. It's not fair to either of you. Relax and plan something that's going to be fun for the two of you to do.
This question is deeply rooted in almost every relationship we have.
In relationships and dating, (don’t act like it’s just me) women are constantly asking themselves this question, “When will I ever be enough for someone to love?” This question is deeply rooted in almost everything that we see and do. Clothing designers are making clothes smaller. Magazine covers are filled with these young, “skinny minnies” that don’t resemble ninety-five percent of the female population. These images shape our views and beliefs about our own “enoughness” (new word I called it first).
The media has created the market for these beliefs but we as a feminine culture have bought into this hook, line and sinker. We have allowed our self-worth to be devalued by media and its flawed and vaunted portrayal of the likes of Brittany Spears, Paris Hilton, Jennifer Lopez, etc. These “marginally talented” these ladies (and I use the phrase “marginally talented” loosely) bring nothing to the table for us to sink our “self-worth” teeth into but an outward attractiveness that few women possess even with cosmetic surgery.

The ink is dry on your divorce papers. Should you date or should you wait?
So, your divorce is final, and the realization of your new-found freedom came rushing up on you like a locomotive. That alone is a lot to adjust to. But once you've settled into your new status as a single woman, the next question isn't easy, either. How soon is too soon to start dating again?
So what was it about this woman that allowed her the freedom and opportunity to meet so many men?
Years ago there was a very attractive woman on a talk show that was discussing the many men she was dating. She was pitted up against a group of women that found her to be somewhat of a “tart” since she was actively dating more than one man at a time. This woman appeared to be confident, sexy, and spoke highly of the men she was dating. In fact, she even said that she didn’t have sex with all of the men. She was simply enjoying the opportunity to date, to meet new people, and to have new experiences.
It feels like gender role-reversal for one woman who wants her dates to go home after sex.
A new phenomenon has come to town and entered the bedroom of one of my clients. One that is causing her to feel guilty. One that goes against her beliefs around relationships and feels to her like gender role-reversal: she doesn't want to spend the night—or all sorts of extra time—with the new guy she's seeing. She'd rather restrict their couple time to three or four hours during the evening, hang out or go out, followed by sex. But then have them call it a night.
