Kenyan offers Hillary livestock dowry for her daughter.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is in Africa this week for a seven-nation diplomatic tour, accepting congratulations on her husband's skill at charming tiny dictators, and fielding marriage proposals for her daughter, Chelsea. At a meeting today in Kenya, CNN's Fareed Zakaria asked Hillary if she'd considered the offer. The Secretary of State graciously replied that she would pass the unnamed Kenyan fellow's proposal along to … Read More

Self-castration is a really bad way out of an arranged marriage.
Men do lots of crazy things for love. Sometimes they spray paint His Initials "Heart" Her Initials on water towers. Other times we invade Troy. And, once in a blue moon, we get drunk, steal an airplane and run it off a runway. All of these things make sense. Manually removing one's genitalia (with a knife) does not.
Per AOL News, a man in southern Egypt, the so-called upper Nile, cut off his own penis with a knife because his parents would not permit him to marry a lady below his station. The scorned member was not in … Read More
The New York Times has us rethinking our opposition to arranged marriage.
So, The New York Times (of all publications) is almost swaying us to think arranged marriage isn't that bad.
Sure, at first blush arranged marriage seems arcane. Prehistoric. Completely illogical and an almost cruel and unusual punishment. Afterall, we Westerners are apprehensive to even spend a faux-romantic evening with someone our family chooses for us—let alone a lifetime. Marriage Has It’s Charm, Partly Because Divorce Is So Lousy
Granted, we won't be trying it out anytime soon, but it had us thinking: do we, really, need to marry our soulmate? Or does marriage almost work better when … Read More

Sometimes, wouldn't it just be easier to go into cruise control? Aren't there sometimes too many decisions that become completely overwhelming if you think about them too much? Wouldn't it be easier if there were a codified path that you just went along with? He discovers this exciting and terrifying prospect called individuality. Rather than follow tradition, he marches to the beat of his own drum and seeks out (the rejects) the knowledge of the wisest men on … Read More
Some Indian parents are trying a new approach, upgrading traditional matchmaking.
Sure, you may be comfortable posting your profile on one of the myriad dating sites that your friends are buzzing about. Now, let's spice up the equation. How about if your parents, let's say your mom, for instance, wanted to post your profile on a matrimonial Web site. Would that fly?
That's exactly the scenario that's playing out with many adults whose parents live in India while they live and work in America, reports this article posted by the Columbia School of Journalism. Matchmaking and arranging marriages, a tradition in India that dates back to the late 19th century, has been getting … Read More
