Fun times. Our homeys over at The Frisky dug up this old school PSA about venereal disease. Evidently, it’s not just for boys or girls but VD is also for you and me. It has pretty fun operetta-style singing and leads us to believe that VD might actually be kind of fun. Is it effective? The FDA is currently testing the anti-Genital Warts drug for the guys.
Gardasil is the newish vaccine for HPV (Human Papillomavirus/ Genital Warts). There was some semblance of a fracas last year about some regions requiring pubescent girls to get the shot because HPV can cause cervical cancer (and possibly throat cancer, it’s that kind of party). The concerns were twofold: 1) Some folks were a little uneasy about protecting kids against STDs when abstinence should suffice. 2) A few people in the medical community were a little uneasy with the long-term effects the vaccine.

Researchers have long argued about how the Syph initially came to be on mainland Europe. Its first outbreak was in 1495 among French soldiers. Some scientists thought that it was just a spontaneous outbreak of a previously harmless strain of something or other. And other scientists couldn’t help but notice that the timing of the outbreak was pretty much in lockstep with Columbus’s return from the New World.
