A couple's difficult journey towards having a baby: Part 4.

For me and Amy, however, there was always more hope, always another chance to get pregnant. The next peak in the Fertility Himalayas, ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection), was a technique developed in 1992 for severe cases of male infertility in which healthy looking single sperms are literally inserted into healthy seeming eggs. The goal is multiple fertilizations. The fertilized eggs can then be frozen and preserved, or returned to the womb to (hopefully) develop.
ICSI took place in a private hospital. … Read More

Amy had been referred to a Beverly Hills fertility doctor, who was so reassuring that I took him to calling him Dr. Mellow. His office had a wall of photos of smiling babies, as if to say, "This will be you."
We sat in his waiting room holding hands. We believed. We didn't know we had just taken our seats inside the Hope Factory.
Once inside, the possibility of getting pregnant never ended. If one technique failed, you tried another, and … Read More

Right around this time, my Amy and I decided to move to California. Perhaps a fresh start, a fresh perspective would help.
My wife's doctor in NY sent her to a doctor in Beverly Hills, who sent her to a fertility specialist, who sent me a doctor whose first name sounded a lot like "Pappy." He was the doctor to see for guys whose guys need to get going.
Pappy had a slightly goofy personality. … Read More

When I look back on the courtship that led to my marriage, I fast forward through a carousel of emotionally charged moments: the night we met, the night we first slept together (not the same), a postcard she sent me, our first weekend away together, a Ray Charles concert, a birthday party (mine), a birthday party (hers), a Hamptons summer rental, a Sam Cooke album, an Al Green concert, a vacation in Europe where I almost proposed but didn't, … Read More
Is a do-it-yourself pregnancy something best left to women under a certain age?
Elizabeth Adeney, a 66-year-old divorced businesswoman who is approximately eight-months pregnant, will soon be the oldest woman to give birth in UK history. She beats out the previous record-holder by four years.
According to the Mail Online, Adeney's do-it-yourself pregnancy was most likely aided by a fertility clinic in the Ukraine that she visited last year. British clinics, for the most part, will not provide reproductive assistance to women over the age of 50.
A friend of Adeney's tells the Mail that: "She was desperate for a child. She was over the moon when she learned last year … Read More
Especially women with step-kids. So says a nationally funded UK clinic.
Let's first make something clear. We don't think everyone should procreate. In some cases, we really wish they wouldn't. In fact, if we had our druthers, we might actually sit down with a few of them and ask: "Are you really sure you want to do this, Mrs. Hitler?"
That being said, we also aren't in favor of arbitrarily picking and choosing who should be allowed to receive fertility treatments. The New Way To Have It All: First Baby, Then Love
For example, if you're a 27-year-old woman who's been trying for over three years to get knocked up, … Read More
Vows no sex for 18 more.
In what appears to be a counterintuitive bid to come across as a little less crazy, Nadya Suleman (a.k.a. Octo-Mom) has told the British tabloid The Sun that she has been celibate for the past eight years and that she plans to remain celibate for 18 more.Suleman, do-it-yourself mother to 14 kids in seven years (including last month's world famous octuplets), has come under fire from the press, the public and her own mother in recent weeks for words and actions that many see as proof that she lacks critical thinking skills and/or sanity. In addition … Read More
More Proposition 8 fighting, sex toy fever, new IVF screening, and adoption.
It's a brand new week but some things just haven't changed. San Francisco is not, as you can imagine, happy with the Proposition 8 results. They plan on taking this all the way to the State Supreme Court. Which is sort of where it all started. The Governator is involved now too, per KCRA.com
Some things don't sit well with the people at Babeland. Like how is it fair that people who voted last Tuesday got discounts on sex toys but some people couldn't use that discount because there's no store in their village, town, or municipality? … Read More
Red is sexy, a thin line between love & hate, and the genetics of sexuality.
Do you want a guy to ask you out for a nice dinner? According to The Frisky, you should wear red. In a study from the University of Rochester it's been shown that dudes are more interested in a Lady In Red. How about that? Eric Clapton knew what he was talking about.
Speaking of outfits, MSNBC thinks you can explore sexual fantasies via your Halloween costume. Dang, what does it say if you dress up as the Joker? (Check out our LoveFeed for ideas of your Halloween costume).

Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Ricky Martin have something new in common.
Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Stop the presses. Ricky Martin just had some kids? According to the TMZ, the "She Bangs" (heh) singer has got himself some twins via IVF and surrogacy. Evidently, he's going to take the rest of the year off to give those little shavers a proper upbringing. Facts are facts, kids basically raise themselves after 6 or 7 months, we're glad that he plans on being there for them during this really important time though. No word on the breast-feeding versus bottle sitch, but as manly, rich, and virile as Martin is he can … Read More
