"Honey, I just got us tickets for a romantic getaway to a tropical island next month where it is warm and they have beautiful beaches." Sounds perfect doesn't it? A winter retreat to break up the stress and dreary cold days and leave your worries behind. Actually, this can be terrible news. For most women, an island getaway means facing the prospect of being seen in a bathing suit!

Some are saying Sports Illustrated's new swimsuit issue cover model, Kate Upton, is a breath of fresh air with her healthy curves, compared to the stick-thin models we're all used to. Others think the 19-year-old is an over-hyped tease who won't tell us whether or not she's dating Mark Sanchez. Check out this latest photo shoot of Upton in Esquire and tell us which side you're on.
Kate Upton has a lot of things to be proud of. The 19-year-old model has starred in Guess Clothing campaigns and the Victoria's Secret fashion show. She was in Tower Heist with Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy (okay, maybe not proud of this one) and was voted 2011 Rookie Of the Year for her body paint pictures in last year's Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. My politics dictate that no human being should ever be robbed of his or her dignity by being objectified. Reducing someone to an erotic symbol deprives the person of his or her inherent worth and nullifies any effort he or she makes to rise above the ordinariness of human life. People should be recognized for their talents; when they excel in public endeavors, they shouldn’t win even greater accolades for their sexual appeal, nor be disgraced for their lack of it. Sexual objectification of any person in any form should be deemed unacceptable. Unless the person’s an athlete. Then we should objectify them ‘til the cows come home.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue has been rocking newsstands since 1964. Back in the day, it was the only place for a good, clean, young fella to have a look at a wildly out-of-his league woman in a bathing suit and pretend he was there for the articles. Unfortunately, since the Internet has come around, the magazine means less and less to youngsters and more to advertisers and old-timers.
