On June 20, Showtime unveils The Real L Word, a reality show about the real lives of Los Angeles lesbians. If you think this sounds eerily familiar, you're right. The Real L Word is the reality kid sister of the network's similar, scripted series, The L Word. This "real" version, however, promises to give curious viewers a true-to-life glimpse into the lives of ladies who lust after ladies.
Even after 53 episodes, two towns and numerous romantic liasons, Nancy Botwin, played by the doe-eyed Mary Louise Parker, doesn't seem to have improved her decision-making skills. Same goes for the rest of the Botwin clan and their friends. But, everyone's blunders have made for great TV. In honor of the recent premiere of the 5th season, here are three things we've learned about love from watching Weeds.
Showtime's "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" is the fictional story of Belle, a high-class prostitute. The series, which ended on Monday (although if you have Showtime you can still get it from OnDemand), received mixed reviews. According to the New York Times, "the series disarms viewers with the flattering pretense that they are watching a witty social satire and not merely a soft-core romp." But over at Salon, Ondine Galsworth calls the show "well-crafted and witty." She goes on to say that, "though the show is sexy -- with plenty of unblinking bedroom romps -- it is also funny and perhaps even, dare we say it, informative, with juicy tidbits about a taboo and complicated life."
