In honor of World Wish Day, follow these four simple steps.
Whether you hope to change jobs, go back to college, travel or help others, you may feel overwhelmed by your day-to-day responsibilities, causing you to never give your wishes a second thought. Many of us wish to travel more, to experience new places, new foods or new cultures. Seldom do we find a way to make our dreams a reality. With a few helpful strategies, you can create your own wish list to conquer. So, in honor of World Wish Day, here are four steps that will explain how to make your dreams a reality.
7 ways to keep your motivation up and “life” well out of the way of your goals!
How are those New Year’s Resolutions working out for you? Do you even remember them? Truth be told most of us wind up foregoing the resolutions we’ve barely begun, a few short weeks into the New Year. If your resolve has begun to wane it’s not too late to re-energize it. Drop that defeatist attitude because here are seven ways to keep your motivation up and “life” well out of the way of your goals:
Valentine’s Day; Maryanne helps you move from coping to celebrating!
A reporter asked me to help him with his column the other day, and his first question was: “Valentine’s Day is coming up. But where can you meet someone if you’re single?”
I replied, “That's like asking me where to go eat when you're hungry. First you need to tell me what you like, what you are hungry for? I certainly wouldn't want to send you to a seafood restaurant if you can’t stand fish! As elementary as it sounds, we need to make this distinction and move away from the one-size-fits-all relationship mentality.
Your success rate is a question of control, reinforcement and good old-fashioned will power.
Happy New Year! The holidays are over and we are back to work. I came to my desk this morning to find some delicious candy surprises in a little goodie bag. While I was settling in for the day and breaking into one of the bags of M&Ms, I realized that I have already officially broken both of my New Year's resolutions (cutting back on the sweets and eating at my desk).
Your soul mate is out there! All you have to do is believe that this person does exist.
The Universe would not create your desire for a partner unless he or she existed.
You’re reviewing the year and hesitant to set new "love goals" for 2012 – fearful if you do you’re setting yourself up for disappointment as you enter the New Year. Much easier to give up and call it a day, right? Read this first...
Use resilience to follow through with your 2012 resolutions!
2012 is quickly approaching and many of us will start thinking of resolutions for the New Year. It can actually feel uplifting to begin a new plan such as joining a gym to get fit, writing one page a day for the next Great American novel, or more prosaically, keeping up with your inbox).
But, as most of us know, the novelty wears off as we get bored and discouraged. We’re suddenly confronted with the day to day challenge of sustaining our goals. Unexpected events throw us off course. We need to stay late at work, we can’t leave our smart phone or a relative gets sick. Disappointingly, one day of missing the goal then leads to missing the next and next day, until we feel defeated and our goal is abandoned.
Get creative! The sky is the limit when it comes to your New Year theme!
What is your theme for 2012 going to be? I’m not asking what your goals are with accomplishments by dates, or what your resolutions are going to be. Rather, what your vision or dream for the upcoming year is going to be. What do you feel energy or excitement around? What is it that you will be able to wrap yourself around and embrace? What is the thing that you can really connect with? What engages your imagination and feels compelling. That “something” that makes you want to work towards it, give it life, and make it dance!
One of the ways of breaking free from those ‘handed down’ thoughts is to set goals.
Everyone, at some point of her life, has dreamed of being somebody special, somebody big. Who hasn't fantasized about being the one who finds the ‘silver bullet’ for weight loss? Who hasn't dreamed of being the homecoming queen? And how many times have we dreamed of being rich, or successful, or happy with our relationships?
Often, we dream big dreams and have great aspirations. Unfortunately, our dreams remain just that – dreams. And our aspirations easily collect dust on the shelves jammed with self-help books.
The same questions you might ask someone with amnesia could change your life!
Positive changes always start with awareness. Whenever you find yourself pressured, dazed or confused by what life has thrown you, try coaching yourself with the above questions. The answers to these questions can help you find your way again.
What gets you motivated isn't the same as what keeps you motivated to stick with healthier habits.
When people call me, one of the things they say they struggle with the most is staying motivated. They liked how good it felt to eat better, exercise and get enough rest and water, but they couldn’t get themselves to stick with these healthier behaviors. Jennifer was one of them. She couldn’t understand why she would quit her walks and Zumba classes, since she enjoyed them when she went. And she actually liked vegetables and whole foods more than junk food, yet she never stuck with them.
