One mom's quest to teach her little girl that self-worth has nothing to do with a price tag.
Mindless consumerism can lead us to believe our value lies in what we wear. I wanted my daughter to have the freedom to divorce her self-worth from her clothing. But how could I teach her that when here I was — 29-years-old, wallowing in a pile of cheap cotton-poly blends and feeling worthless? It was time to go on a clothing fast. I called it "No Pants 2012."
The grass won't be greener on the other side if you spend more time watering your own lawn.
Jealousy can get the best of anyone. It can creep up when least expected. Triggered by seeing photos of a boyfriend’s former lover with amazing hair and a perfect figure, a neighbor pulling up in the driveway with a shiny new car or a best friend who arrives for a dinner date carrying a ‘too die for’ handbag.
Be true to yourself by behaving and acting with integrity in order to have the love you desire.
Why you should love with integrity
We tend to journey from relationship to relationship without unpacking the excess baggage of heartaches, sadness, disappointment, anger, etc., accumulated from love. We drag these heavy bags on dates and into relationships, not realizing that the weight of what we carry will keep showing up until we unpack and release.
Why is self worth necessary in order to be vulnerable?
When we seek validation from others, we give away our power by letting them define our worth. If your worth depends on your partner’s validation, you won’t say what’s really on your mind and how you feel. You’ll censor your words and emotions in order to get your partner’s love, approval and acceptance.
Have you unsuccessfully tried to heal feelings of shame, self-loathing & unworthiness? You CAN heal!
When I was growing up I was frequently shamed, criticized and judged by both of my parents, as well as by my grandmother who lived with us, and by many of my teachers. I grew up believing that there was something basically and essentially wrong with me. I didn't know what it was, but I believed if I could just figure out how to do things right, then the shaming and judgments would go away and I would be loved. But no matter how good I was, or how perfect my grades were, the shaming judgments didn't go away.
The quality of your love life is based on how well you know or don't know your worth.
Self worth is based on the value you place on yourself and what you think about yourself.
The Journey to True Worth Starts Within
Getting to the place of knowing your true worth is one of life’s journeys. Settling for less than you deserve, chasing love that isn’t yours, being afraid to speak authentically and being overly concerned with your partner’s thoughts of you are all signs of not knowing your worth.
If you think that a number on a scale can magically bring you happiness, think again.
One woman loses weight but finds being thin isn't all she thought it would be.
When I was 18 years old, I thought that losing weight would make my life perfect. That's one of the side effects of dieting and hating your body for so long—you begin to assume that thin people have perfect, happy lives and relationships to match their perfectly petite waistlines...
