It's time to break out those dancing shoes again! The TV world is all abuzz with the upcoming premiere of the celebrity dance competition on Sept. 19, and especially with the announcement of the Season 13 cast this past Monday, ABC and Dancing With The Stars made history by casting Chaz Bono, its first transgendered contestant.
Honey Davenport was in character, performing his usual set at a Manhattan drag bar. Clad in a rainbow leotard and platform heels, he took a swig of his drink and ripped off his wig—sweaty and exhausted from the hourlong performance. Suddenly cheers erupted: New York's state legislature had legalized same-sex marriage, and on the eve of gay-pride weekend. Davenport's boyfriend made his way to the stage and got down on one knee. "Will you marry me?" he asked.
So, so inspiring: last week, tens of thousands of people across the country came out in support of same-sex marriage after California voters passed Prop 8, which nullified previously legal unions. From New York City to Minneapolis, D.C. to San Fransisco, gay marriage supporters turned out in huge crowds to protest the bigotry which occurred in California on Nov. 4.
The Wasilla Public Library in Alaska is refusing to shelve two books about homosexual relationships for children, Heather Has Two Mommies and Daddy's Roommate. But it's certainly not because the characters in the books are gay, of course. Oh, no -- the town's library director, K.J. Martin-Albright, says the books are “poorly constructed, lacked engaging illustrations and seemed to lack the ability to engage young readers...Anything on the library has to earn its real estate." Riiiight.
Rumors reported on the same day of Samantha Ronson and Lindsay Lohan getting engaged and splitting up confuse us all.

Eamon Gilmore says Minister for Justice Brian Lenihan's promise last night to have the heads of a Bill to legislate for civil partnerships ready by next March kicked the issue off the agenda into "the indefinite future". Speaking in the Dáil today, the Labour leader said the Government rejection of his party's Civil Unions Bill represented a climbdown on what was on offer during the previous programme for government under then-minister for justice, Michael McDowell.
