I have to admit that I'm an obsessive fan of "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" franchise. Since 2003, I've watched too many crying breakdowns in limousines, steamy hot tub kisses and beautiful proposals that rarely become weddings. However, it wasn't until this season with beauty and single mom Emily Maynard that I began to realize "The Bachelorette" is more than just my Monday-night guilty pleasure.

'The Bachelorette' has officially done what I thought no 'Bachelor' season could ever do. I really like a contestant. Kill me now. Honestly, Emily Maynard is really, really likable. She is NORMAL and honest and funny and sweet and (dare I say it) sincere! So WHY is she on this show where all these bozos compete for her?
I think we've started taking divorce a lil' too casually. Sure, we shouldn't stigmatize divorcees, but we could stop being so cute about our ending marriages. Things like divorce parties, divorce rings, ring caskets and ex-wife shaped urinal cakes (patent pending) sort of make a mockery of the institution of marriage, and the estimable Irish practice of just dealing with something until you die.
This season of The Bachelorette has taken a couple episodes to really get going, but I gotta admit, tonight I felt that old familiar feeling of being completely sucked into the show whether I wanna be or not. I mean, I was already a huge Emily Maynard fan before she handed out her very first rose, but after tonight's episode? Yeah -- I'm really lovin' this gal.
